Since blogs are in the category of a website, it is hard to define them both.
Blogs usually are informal and personal and has a recognisable column structure with lots of links down the side, because are usually created using popular blogging software which sticks roughly to this format.
Blogs has fairly short entries, with dates attached, that get older the further down the page you go, and optionally include some sort of archive of older material, and perhaps the ability to comment on what is said.

A website gives you information about products or services of particular business

A blog gives you personal information about the individuals

As Blog itself conveys personal day-to-day information, it gets updated regularly

Google Loves Both. What matters is quality of either your website or blog.

I would like to go with the word press in which you can have pages like website, as well as you can manage the blog over there,
In short it will give you fruits of website and blog.

I am sure that you know what a website is.

The name blog comes from the term web log. It is really just a journal or diary that has entries categorised by date.

get this question all the time: “what’s the difference between a web site and a blog?”

What it comes down to is this:

A company has a website. That website talks to customers.

A person has a blog. That blog talks to people.

It’s a matter of attitude, not of technology.

Yes, this is a gross oversimplification. But it gets right to the heart of the matter.

Blogs are more on personal information. There is a certain topic on blogging that you want to discuss. In short, it's more on personal ideas. While in website, you have a centain product to promote and sell. It has also a specific category where you can find products that guide the visitors.

The reason why people say "Google loves blogs" is because blogs gets updated very frequently with fresh content.

Blogs are supposed to pass information and are bare minimum in user/UI features. Websites on the other hand are supposed to cover a broader picture.

blog has a narrow scope in the sense it is related to a particular thing and describes that particular thing only. provides information bout that thing only
As for sites, a site presumes a broader scope in the sense that blog is just a part of a site(you can say). a site gives information bout all its products and services

I agree with jessie.. it's not the matter of technology but the way you treat you web. if it's a personal, it's a blog. web sites need more professional touch and are usually used as the marketing media for products and services besides organizational information media as well.

Is it really.. if it is then what about organizations like google etc blogs that provides all the latest information regarding company services and news..:)
A blog enables you to easily update information and put a 'human' face on your company. It enables you to connect directly with stakeholders. Websites don't have the flexibility the blog format does.:)

I disagree. IMO the blog format is less flexible than website format. BTW in a website you can place the format you like, including blog format, of course.

I was not talking regarding technical flexibility, I meant to say, blogs are more flexible than websites in terms of direct communication with your viewers...you can give your view and take suggestions from your viewers..:)
