    Big news (via seo book here), Google is sharing traffic data and much more via the now public adwords 'keywords' tool.

    Added:

    1. Goto: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
    2. Search for related keywords
    3. Then notice the drop down menu (pictured below) offering:
    * Keywords Only
    * Keyword Popularity
    * Cost and Ad Position Estimates
    * Global Search Volume Trends (variable by country)
    * Possible Negative Keywords
    * Are you shitting clay bricks yet?

    I may be dumb but I don't get any stats, just the list of Keywords I added. All i get after choosing a bunch of words is this in the csv:

    seo
    seo chat
    seo elite
    seo forum
    seo forums
    seo london
    seo software
    seo tools
    seo uk

    Code (markup):
    What good is that?

    EDIT: Silly me, hadn't seen the drop-downs. Still not overly impressed though... But yeah, handy info there.

    I remember mention that when the Adwords API first came out it included this data but was soon removed much to the dismay of many who were hoping to learn and benefit.

    Time to go have a look-see for myself I think!

    just yesterday, one of my friend was considering advertising for his site and we were discussing about the keywords etc. and I saw this post by Dominic today and I've now just emailed my friend the link. :)
    this is especially good for those who are just considering signing up with adwords because since the tool is now public, it can tell them all the relevant info before they signup.

    Question...

    Those bar scales, if I do two seperate keyword sets will the scales match? Or is each set scaled to the highest and lowest values etc.

    I think that is probably why Google released this depth of info, to get more advertisers. But the important thing for us a search engine optimizers is we now have that data direct from Google.

    I have found a lot more search phrases I am going to target in organic results with this tool now I know the search volume they attract.

    Handy I admit but I wasn't surprised to see them keep their finger on us by giving a whopping whole number scale from 0 - 5 for search volume etc.

    Although if you tie this info in with the other adwords data you can get: CPC, ad position and estimated daily clicks... we can start to get a more interesting picture of what secrets google has enjoyed knowing while we take educated guesses and stabs in the dark.

    Not sure, I have not had enough of a play with it yet.

    Do notice though that the column titles are click-able / data order-able that way.

    I've always felt that its easier to plan in Overture (now Yahoo) than Google Adwords. This goes some way to addressing the shortfall.

    Thanks Alek, I think many people may still miss this as DP is so busy and there doesn't seem to be much else online about it. I see it did get a mention at the SEW blog and there is a thread at WMW that made their front page... so...
