Hi friends Analytics is showing that the bounce rate on my site is 44%. How can I make it less, it was really shocking to see that much bounce rate. Regards
44% to some would be considered good - that is about average, but it depends on what kind of site you own (the bounce rate for a corporate site would be much different than the one for a video or flash game site, etc). You can reduce it by making the site easier to navigate, more interesting, or adding more functionality. If someone doesnt find exactly what they're looking for, or anything else to catch their interest, they bounce.
That was my first thought before I even looked at the next comment many people are between 60-75% and 44% sounds pretty good to me. I think they leave because of useability and content. With a little tweaking I'm sure this can be fixed. Content is King two short paragrahs is good not full of keywords may it feel natural !
Thanks for the suggestion. At first I was really tensed by seeing the big 44% but now I am feeling better
Several of my blog sites saw very high - 80% bounce rates until I changed the theme to include navigation in the sidebar on EVERY post (since most visits were hitting posts as opposed to the main front page.) That one navigation improvement got me down to the 50-60% range. And that's on fairly content/information rich sites. Just browsing my sites - I think the lowest bounce rate is 30% on a site advertising my local computer services. (Makes sense, people find it because they're looking to hire someone to do work and they want to stick around and read details on the site.) The blog style sites that aren't really selling anything per se are the ones that range from 50-60%. The ones with a bit thinner content seem a bit higher on the scale. I'd be pretty pleased with 44% I think, but always work to make the site "stickier".... more content/easier navigation/etc.
The nature of the website dramatically influences the bounce rate. For example, my daughter's photography gallery website would expect to see surfers click on perhaps ten to twenty photographs before leaving the website. That, of course, would give a very, very low (that is, good) bounce rate. Another site — say, a sports scores website — might get thousands of people coming to one specific daily scores page, reading that page only, and departing, having gotten 100% of the information they were seeking. That would lead to a very high bounce rate. But it would not indicate that the website was lacking or was poorly designed. Each site is getting what they are aiming for — that is, visitors who come and find what they were looking for — even with the radically different bounce rates. So evaluate the nature of your website to determine whether it is the type of site that gives the relevant info in just a page or two (thus a high bounce rate) or across multiple pages of interest (which will lead to a lower bounce rate).
Bounce rate is the percentage of users that leave the site immediately after landing on the page rather than staying and navigating through the site for further info. So a higher bounce rate is bad whereas a lower bounce rate is good.
I also agree that having a bounce rate of 44% is quite low, which means good. You could place a poll on your website asking "What's that you don't like about this web site?" or, even better, grab some visitor's MSN or other IM address and ask him/her personally.
You can find out what your bounce rate is under your AWstats visits duration statistics if you have AWstats on your server 44% is pretty good Sites that load real slow have a high bounce rate up to 80% or more! So if you can do anything to make your site load quicker you should it will lower your bounce rate
My bounce rate is 28.30% right now, what are some factors that make up the bounce rate? I mean my system uptime is nearly 100%, is a bounce whenever a page requested is not accessible? Or other stuff as well?
