Editing the template, in pre-3.3 versions, is the only way, and yes, such modification for phpLD is available, if I remember correctly, I found it through Google easily enough. Another well-worth-a-mention mod package is the phpLD Addons' phpLD Expansion Pack, which is, at the moment, free for download.
