I want to make an information site with categories and few articles ineach category....only articles and no other things like polls, login etc. I know Joomla (but that does not make site look simple) should i use it or any other CMS you would recommend for article site i mentioned above. Free options only. help!help! Thanx n advance for help! Greens 4 sure.......
Until a month ago I would have said Wordpress too. Fiddle with it a bit and you can make it look like a 'real' site rather than a blog. However, having tried Drupal I would now recommend that. There is no fiddling required to make it look like a 'real' site and it is so much more powerful than Wordpress. All my opinion, of course.
Greens given for all those who suggested.........thanx also///// I worked with wordpress n know it very well but used as blog never a site especially the looks wordpress gives it looks more a blog/less a site.Is deir any plugin or mod for converting wordpress blog to an article site or any good template that makes it look like article site. I'll try Drupal..never used in past...my main requirements are a page where difefrent webhosts and their details would be listed 1 below other and many pages like page 1,2,3 would be there. So mainly listing type. Another page for host reviews....so on..
Go with Wordpress or Movable Type. If you're posting articles, there's no reason to get more complex than that. Wordpress doesn't have to 'look like a blog'. Nor does MT.
I would always recommend Drupal. It's built for it... but opensourcecms.com has loads of demos of CMS. Pick one you like... WP is also great - I'd use it just for ease... but Drupal is more flexible and scales well compared to WP. Remember WP started out, and still is, a blogging engine.
The Novoya CMS (http://www.novoya.com) is pretty useful for news sites. It offers free news site hosting, and is pretty solid.
