I wouldn't call these advanced tips, they are the same tips found in 10,000+ forum\blog posts all over the internet. Personally I use the simple phrase when building backlinks: quality relevant one-way backlink. Lets go over each part of that phrase.... 1. Quality: This would be a website that is not made just to produce revenue from AdSense or other advertising ventures. It should have a unique design, a great concept and a large amount of very rich unique content. 2. Relevant: This means the site's content should be directly related to your websites subject. Sites in the same informational field, niche, etc carry more value as a backlink. 3. One-Way: This means the website links to you and your not linking back to them, hence "one-way".
Most of the tips are sort of basic.. follow what ssandecki has written Relevancy is the key for building backlinks.. no point having a PR8 bicycle-modification page pointing to a fishing site..
Link baiting is "a" method to build backlinks, but isn't successful for everyone. It falls under viral marketing that isn't easy for everyone to understand and implement.
