Why no linkbacks listed for our popular site?

I work for Real Poker Training and am trying to figure out why when I type
"link:realpokertraining.com" into google, there are virtually no links to us? Now, I know there are many links out there, from articles and interviews and such, that point to us. Our site does come up on google as the #2 result for phrase "poker training". Yet our pagerank is only 3. We have tons of traffic and the site is doing very well but google does not reflect this. What gives?

Use Google Webmasters Central to view all your external links, this is the most accurate way to do this. Just follow the below steps....

    1. Login\Create your Google Webmasters Central Account (www.google.com/webmasters)
    2. Click\Add your website (if new make sure to validate!)
    3. Click "Links" on the left hand menu near the top.
    4. Click "Pages with external links"

If what your claiming is true all data should be available already in Webmasters Central, alternate way would be to use yahoo.com and use the linkdomain: advanced search operator.

but still, the question remains. i have noticed the same thing, as in webmaster tools says I have X number of backlinks, but a search for "link:site" returns nothing. why the discrepancy?

yes. for example, buddy.com is a PR3 site, yet "link:buddy.com" returns nothing, or 1 with "link:www.buddy.com"

surely there are more backlinks for a PR3 site.

That really means nothing, it's just not sampling any links from that site, it's really not that uncommon.

Yah I'd look at Yahoo Site Explorer too: siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com

They seem to show a larger sampling.
