I've been trying to promote my archive and no such luck yet, so I was curious as to what you guys would do to help you promote your archive.

Interlink related posts at every opportunity.
    Also, periodically edit old posts.
Make sure you've got a google sitemap and a regular sitemap as well.

Why would you want users at your archive anyway?

To help visitors visit my archives I post a weekly summary of what has been posted on the site over the weekend. That way they can see all of the past weeks posts at the top of the page and perhaps catch something that they would have normally missed if the didn't check in earlier during the week.
Here is an example of what I mean.

Well, put it this way; sitemaps help ensure that your archives are fully indexed.
If it ain't indexed, you are unlikely to get too many visitors there.

Also, my human-readable sitemap does snag me pageviews to older posts as well.
