    :D

We better double check, budalata, before we add any more sites. lol

Course, if Annie joins me over on WoW, I probably won't do any editing, that's way more fun.

Alucard would make a great Mage, and Rob would be the perfect Warrior, we'd have one heck of a team. Annie would be perfect as a Hunter because you get all these neat pets to work with.

It should be active because it just refused one site of mine.

The section of DMOZ I applied to hasn't been updated in 5 years. I offered to manage it, but they said it was too big (117 sites) to let someone new take over. It has to be under 100. 20 of the 117 are sites that no longer exist...

Absolutely. All new editors start in a small category until they learn how to apply the Guidelines we have. A top category also includes every category below it, so you could be talking about hundreds of categories, not just the one you applied to edit. :)

Top categories have very few sites, they are mostly listed in all those categories beneath it.

A top category may not have been updated in 5 years because it doesn't accept submissions there, but in the lower categories beneath it. That doesn't mean no editing is being done, :).

In this case, yeah, it does mean nothing is being done.

I'm pretty active with travel blogs. I know most of the active bloggers with reasonable sized followings.

    NONE are in DMOZ.

Unless non existent and non-topical sites are a sign of active management.

    Well, one more tip :)

Think about reasonable subcategory, and apply for it. You can also write category description when applying.

Congrats? Did I win a prize? :) Don't answer that. You can take the editor out of the system, but you can't take it out of your mind so easily.

It was an honest speaking outsider over at RZ that inspired me to come back, and that person stopped complaining, applied to be an editor, and was approved in one day. :) Just the kind of person we want as editors.

Travel sites and categories are some of least favorite for editors to work in, they're chock full of spam and a real pain to edit.

The industry has really screwed itself by it's own dishonesty, editors don't have to edit in places they don't want to (it is a hobby after all), and many choose to stay away from those kinds of categories.

The ODP is very much alive, and although it has suffered some serious setbacks since the big crash of '06 they are working on rebuilding their team. In fact I heard they just appointed a new Admin team. Don't count them out just yet.

Aw heck crowbar, you never told me this... how can I resist? Email me I think I might like to give it a shot. ;)

I got approved as an editor today. I went through and cleaned up the category and went through the backlog in about 3 hours.

The vast majority of the sites submitted to the category I rejected because they had nothing to do with travelogues. Most were clearly affiliate landing pages with just some generic text about places.

That being said, I've had 2 submissions since I cleaned out the backlog. Assuming I can get access to the internet, I can easily keep up with submissions for only a few minutes a day. People can expect a 1 or 2 day turnaround.

Congratulations, Garndt, welcome to the family. :)

You don't have to wait for new submissions, go find them and build your category up so that it's a good resource, :D, that's what we do, build cats.

My first cat had 4 sites in it, I found 130 more. Hey, it's a small city!
