Sometimes are friends and family need to be "educated" in exactly what we do. I think it will save you some frustration in the long wrong. If they still don't get it all you can do is ignore them.

---You ARE Lazy, Get a REAL Job! Online Frustrations---

Obviously, to say such a stupidity, you've got to be very sure that what you name reality is reality indeed. And whatever some closed-minded people say, reality nowadays is www. Especially as refers to working. It is a global tendency - services are our generation's main business and for services can be provided from home (technologies do work in this direction and help the process), then why not? It is not lazy but smart, I am one with that.

I guess people equate home with kicking back. Most people stay home to kick back hence they believe where kicking back. Not knowing that work is work. No matter where your work is at.

I get it ALL the time too. My father still thinks I run a little personal homepage. At one point, my mother tried to get me to go work as a cashier in a local mom and pop pharmacy. That may very well be a good job. But I make 3x working part time what I would have made there. She didn't understand or believe it. When I divorced my ex-husband, they all told me it was time to stop playing on the computer and get a "real job".

I think the worst part is that they think that just because I work at home and can do "whatever" (according to them), I'm available to run around and do everyone's errands, pick people up from work, pick up their kids, etc, as well as be a single mom, and keep this house running. Needless to say I "loose it" every now and then. I need to learn how to say "no". I'd probably make more $ if I was constantly running around for everyone else. I should start charging them! LOL HA!

    1. Son says, "Did you ever think that MAYBE you should get a regular job.." and "You'll NEVER make XX amt of money.."

[that extra vote of confidence always helps..]

    2. Someone else remarks, (when I mention that I get advice from people all around the world).."OH - be CAREFUL.. There's LOTS of SCAMS on the internet.."

[WTF - did I say I was investing in a bank account in Nigeria????]

Then there's the need to make sure no one tries to dominate use of my computer...

But the HARDEST for me is getting my three dogs (yes, I have three 'babies') to keep from demanding me every minute since I'm around all the time now! Sheesh, I thought the human variety of kids were demanding...

    haha great thread
last summer I decided to forget getting a real job and work online...I made a few hundred bucks, but have developed a site worth $1,000 + that earns $70-110/month of fairly passive income...

So compare that to a part-time job I would've gotten that would've netted me $1,600... I think I came out on top. But at the time when I didn't have a job, I was considered lazy... I now laugh in their faces

MY WIEF AND I WORK FROM HOME FOR ABOUT SIX WEEKS.EVERYONE TELLS US TO GET A REAL JOB, OR YOU SHOULD HAVE KEPT YOUR OLD JOB TO WHERE YOU WRE MAKING MORE MONEY.YES THE MONEY IS NOT ALL GOOD RIGHT NOW, BUT IT WILL GET BETTER. THIS OPPORTUNITY CAME OUR WAY AND WHEN WE LOOKED AT ITS POTENTIAL WE LIKED WHAT WE SAW, NOT JUST FOR OUR LIVES BUT FOR OUR NINE CHILDREN AS WELL. WE SHOWED THE OLDER FOUR WHAT WE ARE DOING,THINKING THAT MAY WANT TO DO THIS AS WELL,BUT THEY KEEP TELLING US TO GO AND GET A REAL JOB LIKE OUR OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS ARE SAYING.WE WANT TO SET OUR OWN HOURS SO THAT WE CAN RIDE OUR BMW K1200LT MOTORCYCLE WHENEVER WE WANT BECAUSE WE LOVE TO RIDE.

    THANKS

    Yeah, Yeah, Yeah,

It is ok to do a little bit of venting here but lets keep it quiet... we don't want to attract to many new competitors...=).

I come from a family of businessmen, and all my life, and my parents life, we get this same kind of flak. People think if you are self employed, you're rich and live a care free life. Completely not true. Running your own business can be very stressful, you have limited job security, and the hours are long. There is no such thing as a 40 hour work week with weekends off.

If people want to experience the "real world", they should try running their own business.
