I am wondering what you guys think...

Does your domain name extension affect the ranking of your website? Will a .info score lower than a .com or .us?

    Any help would rule.
    Thanks :)

Correct, the reason certain extensions are more prevelant is because they've been around for a much longer time period.

Agreed. From what I've been told, it should make no difference whatsoever. At least I know that's Google's policy anyway.

All the major search engines would use the same platform, giving value to a specific extension beyond geo-graphical purposes would hurt the relevancy of their search results.

But, don't you think a .com is easier to remember?

Some people speculate that .org has special treatments in the SE's. But if sites are being SEO'd etc then it makes no difference.

.com is definitely the one for branding and for type-ins.

We are talking SEO value though, but that is a point well made.

Funny, people usually go on how they think edu\gov extensions get special treatment, your the first I ever seen mention org

It can be, but it's often among those who are not Web-savvy. (Yes, I'm specifically talking about the Joe Sixpack types here.) But that has far more to do with human psychology than anything.

Yes it help to get ranking on SEPS if you are promoting your site in particular country as like I have 2 sites yoursite.co.uk and yoursite.com and I target UK people then yoursite.co.uk will get the ranking early as compare to yoursite.com on google.co.uk

That's not true, coolpavan. Search engines don't care what the TLD of your site's domain is - if you have content they can index, you'll be able to rank for it.

a well seo'ed .info site will rank much higher than a less seo'ed .com site. so theres no harm in going for a .info or any other extention

Any site can have "huge content" and "natural backlinks. ICANN hasn't enforced domain extension rules in a long time.

There is a difference for ccTLD (jp, fr, es, etc...) and this is official.
Not for generic top level domain.
