Too much, I have taken the majority of the this month off, decided to work half as hard and see what happens. What I have found is that I make the same What I was doing when I thought I was working was nothing, now that I have a fixed amount of time I get more relevant things done. Every Saturday morning I make a list of things that I want to accomplish in the next week and work no more than 10 hours. I am still not making what I think that I need to , to make it worth the time, but I think that it is a great hobby and a way to make some drinking money
Actually if we are talking money, well I make about enough to pay for the costs of my sites in advertising, server, etc.... With ehough left over to have a good number of beers twice a month or so
Cost of running my business is currently at about 25%-30% of the revenue it makes at the same time. I am re-investing most of the profit or put it into the bank for day X when I quit my job to work full-time for myself. Christoph
The amount you spend vs the amount you receive is not the whole story. what if you sold rather expensive items and made 5%. Bad deal ?? Not if you sold them very quickly. OK, what if you sold items at 10 times your cost?? - if your cost is 2 cents and you do not sell thousands then you do not make much. (cost + labor) X markup X speed
Earmark a specific amount each month to put back into improving your site and advertising. This is simple reinvesting in your business. I tend to reinvest 50% of all revenue from a new site back into further improvements and promotion. After the traffic becomes viral I slowly take it down to 10% of the income and leave it there. As for the rest well that is up to you.
If I invest on Overture (as I'm on Yahoo), do you think I'll end earning more than what I invested on the publishing?
This all depends on your site niche. Some people payout $5000 per month to make $5000 per month profit. So is it worth it. To them it is. That is a good profit return. You have to be able to get the advertising going and afford the budget if it does not work for you though.
About 99% of what I make is profit, I have a good unique advertising method in place. To be honest, I base my sites around how I can advertise a lot of the time, if I notice good advertising opportunities, then I'll build my site around that, not the other way round.
