How I Made $70 And Lost $110 In One Day Doing Affiliate Marketing

Hey DP'ers. I thought you veteran affiliate marketers would get a kick out of this, being that this was my first real affiliate marketing project, and I suffered a loss of $40. This is a copy/paste of my blog post on my official website, so if you want to view the full version with images of the Adwords/Adsense/Analytics/Clickbank reports, just click the blog post under my user name here on DP. Otherwise, have fun reading:

It sounds like your big enemy to making any money was time. They've been hyping Wrestlemania for months and you tried to do the same in 30 hours. I'd say you did good to make the 3 sales. Often when you lose you win and it looks like you did this. Good job!

I don't imagine anyone would laugh at that. You gave it a go and experimented. Just because it didn't work out (profit wise0 this time there is no reason that the next niche are area you promote won't make money and cover your losses. Don't view losing the money as a bad thing but just as a learning curve!

    Cheers

That's great RTL, even though you lost $40, like you said, the experience and the gained knowledge was well worth it. When I first started in affiliate marketing I lost more money than I want to even think about, let's just say it was into the 4 figure range, but the knowledge that I gained was priceless, and now when I do a campaign I have some pretty good success.

There is no price on experience. Sounds like it was a good test for you. Just think now you have a whole year to promote your wrestlemania site for next year. I'm sure you will have much success. Good luck

You now have a model that works you just need to plan for next time and work on lowering your costs to give you a profit, well done all the same.

What a helpful post, and very interesting and well written. This is not only a great resource for people interested in affiliate marketing but also a useful general commentary on business marketing and the power of a learning experience over the actually money earned. Good luck in the future!

Great read and well done, I like how you've jumped straight into the deep end here, how ever one thing caught my attention Google adsense on same page - isn't that arbitrage ? so yeah next time I wouldn't leave it up either.

Maybe most the interested people already had prior arrangements to watch the broadcast as well.
