Anonymous = Any one can get away with red bombing or teaming up with there friends, to red rep people they don't like very much. :D
Know who sends it = You have to be good or you can get busted for doing the above when they taddle tale on you for doing rep abuse!! :D

Disclaimer: I'm being good....rep wise!! I havn't been giving out very much rep since the rep changes banned us from having fun with rep....aka rep abuse!!! :D:D

There are two separate, but related issues; anonymity vs. signed and public vs. private.
    1. Public reps act as instant feedback on the helpfulness, validity or value of a given post.

    2. Private (hidden) reps provide no information to the forum denizens.

    3. Anonymous reps in private are valueless to anyone but as a mental masturbation by the repper.

    4. Anonymous reps in public do not allow others to evaluate the rep based on one's opinion of the repper. I've only been here a short while, but there are already posters whose reps I would respect and others whose rep would garner no respect from me.

    5. Signed public reps would obviate the issues above.

    6. Abuse of the system, if signed and public, would be accountable.
Will you give that some consideration?

    cheers,

    gary

Indeed as long as you dont do anything bad or objectionable you shouldnt go away from that green square to a red one... Reputation is how you stand in the view of other members... this doesnt have to be public...

Curious, was that in response to my post? If so, did you actually read it and the post I was replying to?

i usually leave my name behind, green or red, and i very seldom leave a red. unless it's really objectionable (like saying "CLICK ON YOUR ADS" without telling that you're kidding).

Well, I just gave several reasons that signed public reps are better than anonymous private reps. Can you offer cogent counter arguments?

    cheers,

I find it quite unfair that someone should give you a red without
    a. giving face
    b. telling you why

regardless of whether people care or not - its bad for self-esteem!

So when someone gives you rep in an area that doesn't count for points, how can one tell whether it was meant to be positive or negative when there is no comment attached?
