At least 2 unnamed webmaster forums that I have tried to get into are now gone, one of them for at least 2 or 3 days now.

Has anyone else seen the forums they visit down and out?

I was reading about this Google related virus that they put a stop to, what they said was happening is the worm would get into the forum and replace all the files with some crap statement.

I just wonder if some of these guys lost their entire database of threads, that would be a real bad thing.

Hope they have a lot of backups

Looks like a militant group against the British, USA and our 51st state.

Wow we are even hated across the internet community, I have been telling you guys we have to change our policies and treat other nations fairly.

    That includes you Brit's also.

Get rid of that clown Tony Blair :)

Just another reason to go vBulletin. Though I don't want to get into any arguments in this thread. It's sad to see these kinds of things exploited, however sometimes this is the only way fixes ever get implemented.

Why not argue, this is a forum for debate on issues, don't worry about it, if your statements touch a nerve that is good.

Don't hold back on us man. :)

Thanks, Kusadasi. I don't blame the whole country. Every country has misfits and morons like that. And some of the attacks in their name came from other countries, including within the US and the Netherlands.

    Thanks for the translation.

Are you suggesting vBulletin isn't at risk? I must say that reminds me of the Linux-Mac camp claiming that they don't have to worry about viruses...

Not really. The fix is simple -- upgrade to the latest version.

The real disaster is they can not patch the issue i think. They recommend that move to phpbb 2.11 (or move to VB :) )

Security is the number one issue in computing today, the sooner folks realize this the better for everyone and the internet itself.

Don't get me started Minstrel

Why would you say it is not a big deal Minstrel, the entire community thinks the software is junk now and many forums are still down and may in fact be doomed if they lost their threads.

The following article states that this is not over and that it is a PHP problem, not just a phpBB problem.

AC is correct, if you or your host is running an older version of PHP: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=248046

What is interesting Minstrel is when forums just disappear from the face of the earth, all within a few days time.

This means that the most important factor in running a forum is security, because if a forum is down for any length of time if will be regarded as a second rate forum and will lose most of it's membership quickly.

This is sad, but a fact of life on the internet.

If Google or Yahoo was down for a week or so the same thing would happen to them, lost market share quickly.
