This is really starting to bother me about the Coop...

    I got an email today...

We are interested in doing some advertising on www.lincolnvscadillac.com. Please contact me to discuss further. Feel free to use email.

A name and a phone number were given.

    So I called...

It turned out to be from a company that solicits sites to place the coop code on the site, and they in turn pay the site a monthly fee.

I dont fault this company, because they are acting within the rules.

However. I am not sure I like the idea that a whole company has been set up just to get coop weight to sell and that the rules allow this.

I can think of pros and cons for allowing this. But, there is no cost so this 'company' is free to profit from this.

I dunno, it just rubs me the wrong way, I feel like they should have to pay something for the service. I mean, this company is making money off this, and WE are being asked to donate for new servers so companies like this can make more money. Dont get me wrong, I have no complain against Shawn for asking for donations, nor do I have any problem contributing to support the servers. I just feel a little like someone is making a bunch of money on my dime. (well, our dimes)

I dont care if a member has a bit extra and wants to rent it, but a whole company like this is over the top.

Rant over. Am I offbase here or ~~~

Is the company turning around and selling advertising space? What's the company?

This company (I assume it's the same one) contacted me a month or two ago with the same proposal. I could probably dig out the e-mail if it's needed.

I just thought it was a little spammy considering the site they contacted me about was already running the coop. Had they even looked at the site in the first place they would have seen it.

I also don't like the idea of this, maybe some publicity to tell people not to do any business with this company is needed.

Yah thats pretty rediculus ... its these types of actions that will eventually cause the demise of such a great tool. Come to think of it now, i may have got one aswell, but i think i read it as they wanted to by some co-op weight from me... which doesn't make sense since I don't have much!

I got one a while ago, the email was to the admin of the site that had the coop on it. Sort of like trying to sell ice to Eskimos :D .

I don't think its a good thing, I mean only Shawn has a right to do that.

So has this been addressed by the proper admins? I'm just curious what happened, since I'm new to the Co-Op and this would be good information to know. Damn't if I don't hate spam.

As far as I know they are just using the advertising space for their own ads and not reselling it.
