Buying big - $50k budget

Wow, for that price (to be honest) I think you should just build a new forum and market the hell out of it. I mean, you can easily build a new forum for free or for $1 - $2k you can actually get a pro programmer to get a Forum script and customise it for you.

Then, you can spend another $43k for SEO (read buying links). With that amount of money spent on advertising and links, your site will be right up there within 3 months (or whenever Google updates). And spend the last $5k on on-site promos, maybe competitions to promote new members signing up and existing members posting. You know, "each post goes into a draw to win ....." and "refer your friends and for each referral who posts over 20 posts you can $$" and so on .....

Anyway, good luck with the project. I didn't mean to sound negative, but just my 2 cents ....

 

dfsweb....then again, he has to start from scratch...he could buy a site worth $30k, then have a full site and spend 20k on promotion and contests... that way he doesn't have to wait for a site to mature and age. if you have the cash I think it would be best to spend it up front.

What you guys don't seem to understand is that a site that is worth this kind of money takes a lot of ingenuity and usually years to create. If I gave any one of you 50k right now to create a new money making site, you would think you would nail it but the likely outcome would be that you would piss away all the money and have a site that is worth 5k max.

Good sites are worth a lot of money. Most of you don't know what these sites are about because you have never seen them before. People ususally don't sell them because they are impossible to replace.

How about you guys stick to what you know and if the buyer isn't intersted in your site you just move on and not worry about it?

But I would not have have touched it. I have got two large forums with very similar stats to that: bfarber (45000 members) xbox-skins.net (23000 members)

The amount of resources required is just incredible (a top-end dedicated server each)
