Hi there! I sometime do Yahoo Answers for my site =) All you need to do is to answer questions. If you're planning to include a url (your site), you better make sure that you answer is relevant to that link. Yahoo answers drives traffic, but not that much.
My dear Friend Why not talk with directly the top contributor of yahoo answers. Ok i am not promoting myself but inorder to create faith in the below detials i have to do this. First thing is that yahoo answer are with nofollow so seo wise it is zero. Second thing that yahoo answers allow to paste link so SEM wise it is helpful Third thing is that when you become top contributor at yahoo then you build a rappo there Fourth thing is that if you do spam there then you are nowhere. Fifth thing is that at yahoo answer genuine visitors with there genuine problem are there so they need accurate reply for their problem unless you can't get best answer and never recieve top contributor logo Finally No spammers are there so you can will receive genuine and direct traffic which will obviously buy product or services if they click your url. Answer some relevant questions that could link to your site.. It doesn't help in seo, but it does give you direct traffic
I have found Yahoo Answers great for targetted traffic. One answer got me 30K hits in a month and I still get about 100 visitors/day from that answer now. In terms of SEO, there is a bit of a dependancy here. Some niches are very populour and you find some webmasters scrape particular niche questions to put on their page (giving you a new backlink in effect). You also find that the Yahoo Answers page you had the best answer is ranked high in SERPs, and you get traffic in that way as well (this is true regardless of which search engine was used). The main thing here is that answers should be detailed and your links flow in from what you have written in your answer. Of course, the links themselves have to be informative. If you do not have this, you will most likely be flagged and have your acount suspended.
Yahoo answers use no follow tag with all links, you it won't help in SEO. But you can drive some direct traffic.
I got descent PR for my pet blog from zero to three mainly due to yahoo answers. This is silent contributer for your site i.e. visitor wise... Even your URL will be referred by some others if you're giving relevant answers. More over you can place a small banner with Yahoo icon in your website which indicates the answers for which you have answered in your website. I did for my Pet care site and got noted by YAHOO and receive nice ranking in yahoo also. My URL is edogadvice.com.
ya . yahoo answer links are nofollow links. ultimate aim of SEO is to bring some traffic. Yahoo answer brings you traffic.
It only helps as referring links but in SEO I don't think it helps because you can't use anchor text on yahoo answer.
Your website needs traffic, and it drives to it, than i don't think so it's harmful for your website. Finally, main purpose after SEO is getting high and business traffic. If you get that you are going in the right direction.
