Ok, well I am fairly new to internet marketing and trying to make money from the internet. I am a newly single mother with a young son to support and have little money to outlay. What do you think are the most cost effective marketing strategies, or ways to make money online? I appreciate any help anyone can give me here, and hopefully I can help you in return some day.
There are a lot of free ways to market a website. There are tonnes of posts all over this forum that would really help improve your knowledge of IM. If you're talking about websites that create money, you need to find a niche that you have a lot of interest in and has a lot of potential customers. Don't make a generic website, find something and make it unique. If you want any specific advise then ask, but your question is so broad. I'm new to internet marketing as well but i have learned quite a lot from this site.
These are most effective (cost and results) that I have come across and used: Directory Submissions - targeted links at high PR directories Blog and Forum Postings - to high PR and frequently crawled sites Social Bookmarking Classified Ads - paid and free Article Marketing - submit to high PR directories, could also serve as link baits (EZines) Link Exchange - with relevant and authority sites Link Baits - for organic linking blogging submit articles forums/message boards seo - pretty expensive, unless you are good and do it yourself google adwords As for the best way to make money, if that secret was out, I would be responding to your post from my villa in the Bahamas instead of my desk at work...
I would recommend starting a blog with adsense on it for a begginer, use social networking sites like Digg.com and stumbleupon to get immediate traffic. Try to be as creative as possible.
You could start a blog and eventually it will have some Page Rank, if you keep posting to it and do a bit of linkbuilding. You could then sell blog posts, if you wanted to. Another way to make money is doing article writing. See this thread. "or ways to make money online? " One of the easiest and free way to make money online is to start doing work at freelancing sites. There are different kinds of jobs available, the easiest jobs are Copywriting and data entry jobs.

Thank you very much for the advice, I already have a couple of options running so I am going to see how they go and then keep trying new things and learning what I can. As a stay at home mum I am not time poor (I just have to work around a very very active little boy's schedule lol) and I have the drive to succeed, my motivation being that I want to give my son a good life (and yes, perhaps a few sparklies for myself here and there.. lmao). So hopefully, with lovely people like you to advise me on the odd occasion and with a lot of time spent soaking up the ENORMOUS amount of information which is available on this wonderful site, I will be able to acheive my goals and then set some higher ones! As other people have already mentioned I would start a blog in an area that interests you but where you can also potentially make some money. I would make sure to spend the extra bit of money to but a proper domain name for your blog though since it is certainly worth it. Plus, theye are only like $10/year these days.
I can say two ways .... a) one to work on freelance sites - you will see variety of projects and as you go on you will learn a lot and you will have your own list of service buyers contacts some of them will have long term projects. b) Affiliation marketing - means to promote and make money. I am new at this myself but I can say starting off in a forum like Digital Point is great because you will get feedback from people who have been there, done that. Consider doing some research, learning the terminologies because it is easy to get lost. But they are quick to pick up. I can recommend "Internet Marketing University" (google search in quotes), which is soon to be re-released with exciting videos, training materials and documents that may assist you in your venture. There are plenty of articles on the web to learn about different strategies as well. Sure enough, like everything, it takes research, time and persistence.
