I woke up today to find my Gmail account so spammed.. I couldn't think why either, the only person that knows that email address works for google .. lol

Then it came to me ...

so a DaveN schoolboy error, for using a google product which gives away your Gmail Account .. or google for giving my Gmail Account so easily

That list is probably a good starting point to build a new webmaster newsletter :)

The whole idea of your GMail account being your subdomain is indeed rather ridiculous. One of the few things Google hasn't thought out very well IMO.

I didn't really understand this thread but now TOPS has cleared up my confusion :)

Seems a really stupid move by google. Anybody can write a script to get thousands of email addresses about 5 minutes.

Hey guys, if you so much upset by the spam, you should look for any other business. Online business is just like that. Nobody can stop Spam...and by the way it is just increasing not decreasing after putting all ads. Try to work around it.

Spam being every doesn't make this better. For a company that is so hard trying to be "not evil" like google, it's a big fault not to realize beforehand that they will release thousands of email addresses with the naming scheme at googlepages.com.

Btw: I like my email spam - it helps me check every day that all mail accounts are still active :)

Someone should digg this thread, most people won't even realise where the spam is coming from.

Hopefully somebody at Google is reading this, and escalating it to the relevant people.

Besides, it would be really helpful for people to be able to choose a sub-domain name, like at Blogger - it would look a lot more professional than a personal e-mail alias, which I guess most people intend to be informal to begin with.
