This must be an SEO trick......On some of the bigger blogs....I've seen the owner of the blog actually comment themselves referencing the same blog topic using [ ]

Is this something we should all do? Does it help with traffic?

    Thanks

I would call this an "SEO trick", but rather a method to make a blog seem popular and keep conversations going in comment areas, also good for internal linking.

From an SEO standpoint, this is nothing more than interlinking your pages. But, from a visitor/reader standpoint commenting on your blog and interacting with visitors can build reader loyalty. of course this assumes you are interacting with other people that post comments, not just commenting to yourself..

The only benefit I see is interaction with other folks who have left comments, or providing amplifying information not in the original post. Internal linking? Not sure there's a benefit there.

Internal backlinks is one of the best on-page optimizations you can do for yourself to minimize PR leaks.

i wouldn't be surprised if someone is commenting on their own blog to get some activity going, but posting by admin without any user interaction is pure lame in my opinion. if there is no user coment and all there is a comment by the admin, that speaks for the credibility of the site itself.

I think you might be seeing trackbacks from posts the blog owner made referencing a previous post? That's usually what generates a comment with the [ ] in it.

fortunate for some blogs I actually comment on most blogs I come across - assuming I actually read the post. I'd say I comment on more blogs (ones that i'll probably never visit again) more then ones I don't. But I'm an oddball like that.

Uhm...I think you are all referring to a blog's ping/trackback feature??

If you link from one post to another post in your blog, then you would get a "trackback comment" if I can call it that. The owner didn't make the comment himself, it's a built-in feature indicating that another page on the blog is linking to another one.

The website I was specifically looking at did not have any comments yet except a comment from the admin linking directly back to the same post I just finished reading......???? You are saying this is a trackback?

    little confused.....
