Problem with concurrent <ul>

    Hello,

    I'm running into a problem with 2 concurrent unordered lists. Basically, the format is as follows:

    <ul>
  <li>content</li>
  <li>content</li>
  <li>content</li>
</ul>

<p>&nbsp;</p>

<ul>
  <li>content</li>
  <li>content</li>
  <li>content</li>
</ul>

    So: The problem is that while the first unordered list resolves fine, with each list item indented and with a bullet, the second list does neither, at least in IE6. In FF it works as it's supposed to. Is this a known problem? If so, is there a hack?

    Thanks for your reply.... the site's not up yet, here's all the code for the page though, maybe you can see what's up. The offending bit is closer to the bottom. I don't understand it since it seems like such a straight-forward thing. :confused:

            <p>Fiberoptic bronchoscopy is done to see the airways or to get samples of mucus or tissue from the lungs or the breathing pipes (airway). Bronchoscopy involves placing a thin tube-like instrument through the nose or mouth and down into the lungs. A camera in the tube is able to capture pictures.</p>
            <p>Reasons for usage &amp; benefits:</p>
            <ul>
              <li><strong>Biopsies</strong> - small pieces of tissues that are analyzed in the laboratory can be taken through the bronchoscope. </li>
              <li><strong>Bleeding</strong> - if a patient has coughed up blood, the bronchoscope can be used to find the cause of the bleeding in the lung. </li>
              <li><strong>Infections</strong> - the cause of certain infections (like tuberculosis, pneumonia following organ transplantation) is best figured out by getting mucus directly from the airways and analyzing it in the lab.</li>
              <li><strong>Recurrent or persistent lung collapse</strong> (called atelectasis) - the collapse of a lung or part of a lung over and over again is usually caused by something blocking the airway. This blockage could be caused by a foreign body, or an aspirated (inhaled) object such as a peanut, a tumor, or thick mucus. These types of blockages can sometimes be seen with the bronchoscope. The bronchoscope can be used to remove some foreign bodies, and in this way help to open up the lung.</li>
             </ul>
            <p>Risks:</p>
            <ul>
              <li><strong>Lung Leak or Collapse</strong> - the airway may be damaged by the bronchoscope, particularly if the lung is already very inflamed or diseased. If the lung is punctured it may cause an air leak, called a pneumothorax. (See <a href="thoracentesis.aspx"><strong>Thoracentesis</strong></a> and <a href="thoracostomy.aspx"><strong>Chest tube thoracostomy</strong></a>).</li>
              <li><strong>Discomfort and Coughing</strong> - while the bronchoscope is passed through the nose, throat and breathing tubes, it may cause some discomfort and tickle the airway leading to a cough. Local anesthetics are used to reduce this discomfort and coughing and sedatives are sometimes given to relax patients or make them sleepy for this procedure.</li>
              <li><strong>Bleeding</strong> - bleeding can occur after a biopsy is obtained or if the bronchoscope injures a tumor in the airways. Bleeding is more likely if the airway is already inflamed or damaged by disease. Usually bleeding is minor and stops on its own or a medication can be given through the bronchoscope to stop it. Rarely, bleeding can lead to severe breathing problems, or be life threatening.</li>
              <li><strong>Reduced oxygen</strong> - the level of oxygen in the blood may fall for several reasons. The bronchoscope may block the flow of air into the airway. During bronchoscopy, small amounts of liquid are injected into the lung to &quot;wash&quot; out the lung and/or to make it easier to see through the bronchoscope. This fluid can cause the level of oxygen in the blood to fall. This usually goes away fairly quickly on its own. The PICU staff check continuously the level of oxygen during bronchoscopy. If the oxygen level is dropping, extra oxygen is given and the bronchoscopy is stopped to allow for recovery.</li>
            </ul>

    That fixed it under IE 6 for me. One other thing you might consider doing, is running it through the w3c validator, that usually helps me make sure I don't throw a wrong tag in there or screw some little other detail up.

    Thanks for the suggestion. The reason I used a double-colon is because of what I read in Wrox's 'Beginning CSS'. In there is says that the doubt-colon is used on pseudo-elements only, with the single colon used for pseudo-classes. Mind you, this is all new under CSS 3 so it may not be widely supported yet. It seems to work for both IE6 and FF1.5 though.
