!! Warning !! Paypal E-mail Scam!

Discussion in 'PayPal' started by vlad230, Mar 19, 2008.

    Hello!

    Guess what e-mail I've received today :D A paypal scam e-mail :p

Looks like a certain 'Mary Boxwell' has sent me $250... I would have fallen for this because I'm actually expecting some money but, luckily I check my account by typing the address directly into the browser and never click the link from the e-mail :D

When I checked my account I saw that there wasn't any incoming payment so, I deduced that this was a BIG SCAM :p

The "Click here to accept payment" directs to paypal-secured.blogspot.com so, the scam was obvious.
If you want to see what's on that page remember: DO NOT TYPE IN YOUR E-MAIL AND PASS!!!

So, if you ever receive an e-mail from "Mary Boxwell" don't fall for it.

BTW... Could someone report this website to blogspot.com ? I simply don't have the time...

Here's a attachment with a screen shot from my gmail account:

Thank you for sharing this. The most important thing to remember is, never ever click a paypal link in your email. Type it manually on the address bar.

In case you didn’t realize it, spoofed emails are sent out daily. eMail is unsafe if any email can be spoofed, I have some tools for experimental use that spoofs emails, I can send out emails appearing from anywhere, and guess what, it works :O! I really don’t trust emails that much, anymore. There are advanced measurements that can detect spoofed emails, but the average internet citizen doesn’t know about these things.

you should know what you are talking about before you give someone shitty advice like that...

just because a site has https doesn't mean it's a safe site...you can get SSL for $15, or less if it's applied to a shared server ;)...https is NOT always safe...

all https means is the data transfered via the site is encrypted...doesn't mean it's being used for a good purpose...

So, I give you all a heads up on some scammers and this is the "thanks" I get?
    Some people are just worthless....

Did you ever think that I really didn't had the time?
Let's say I reported it instead of warning my friends here @ DP... How fast do you think the e-mail sent by me will be read and then actions taken against that website? Well...I'll tell you there might be weeks or months until that website will be deleted. In the mean time there might be some people from DP who get scammed....

SO, WHAT DO YOU THINK DIDN'T I HAVE MY PRIORITIES IN ORDER?

paypal usually has sites like that shut down in 24-48 hours ;)...not weeks or months...

and if you have time to post a post on a forum...you have time to simply forward an email to another email address ;)

yes, thanks for warning everyone...but imho, warning paypal would have been a better use of your time ;)..i'm sure the millions of people that probably got that email don't all check DP...

Respect to you Vlad for taking the time to warn people.

I received the very same scam today, this is the first time I have received a scam email such as this and I've been online for 6 years, but as soon as I saw it I knew what it was.

Some people will not know that it's a scam straight away, like I said respect for letting others know.

Sorry for double post, I already forwarded the site info to Paypal.

Also, if anyone types "Mary Boxwell PayPal" into Google they'll find this thread.
