I make 1,xxx a day but 10,000 is just insane.

To make that much you would need a lot of sites or top rankings for tons of good keywords.

Maybe if wikipedia put Adsense ads it could make that much..llol

Interesting article but I think the theme of the site matters in terms of whether you can get away with an "ugly" design or not. I think his success is attributed to the fact that it's free + SERPS! The latter being the biggest.

I wouldn't want my banks website to have an ugly design. I would equate that with poor backend development eventhough I know they are not really related. The average person likes pretty graphics when browsing a website that they are going to trust their personal information to.

Oh yeah! I recognise that name, plentyoffish.com.

They did advertising for a while back here in California on KFI 640 AM. It's one of the biggest stations in the West. You can pick up it's signal in 8 or 9 states in the Western US.

With that kind of pub, promoting in drive time, Im sure he got TONS of traffic. And if it's halfway sticky...

This website can be turned into an analogy.

Bill gates never went to high school, but does that mean everyone who doesn't go into high school gonna be a billionaire?

    or

He's driving away his visitors that's why he's getting so much CTR. That ugly design, it looks so amateurish, most people will think its a crappy site with low amount of visitors. Not many would guess its such a large site, thus they will leave using Ads.

Not only that, of course he did some nice work on content and getting members and stuff, but to claim the ugly design did it, is just stupid.... There are billions of ugly websites that don't make more than 3 cents a month on adsense. Like i said, just cuz this one got lucky and got to first page on some nice keywords, doesn't mean every ugly site will win :D.

That was a very good newsletter article. But of course ugly websites do stay in your memory longer... human nature: people will always remember the bad.

Slap AS on wikipedia and they'd make much more than that in the beginning. But the traffic would decrease with time as people would see the whole project as a sellout.

Haha. I installed that after reading this thread as well: http://dating.blapper.com/

Success will come from good promotion, getting regular visitors and good search engine traffic. If that can be done then all we'll need to do is uglify our sites by sticking Adsense right in the middle.

its already a sell out, best place to get information about things from people who dont know what they talk about and their propoganda (sure there are many articles with great information and accurate information, but i wouldn't trust it 100%)
