There are plenty of great things to be afraid of. Firearms in the hands of private citizens doesn't even rate on that list.

Let's look at some quick stats on governments murdering their own citizens:


Note that this is over four-times the number killed in combat in all international and domestic wars during the same years.

That's way more scary than swimming pools.

Well, ordinary citizens can't own guns right here in Singapore, only military and civil police are the authorised possessors of firearms. If anybody is caught with firearms, and are unauthorised to possess them, the highest punishment it can go is death.

But since we have compulsory National Service in the army for males, I have handled M16, SAR 21 (Singapore's own invention), Ultimax 100 (Also from Singapore), FN MAG in the army. Those days of keeping my weapon safe have made me shun from them as much as possible: if you lost your weapon in the military here, you would face a court martial of no less than 7 years in prison.

The retail price of a Barrett M82A1 is $7,775.00.

But...

That's really not the best all-purpose "sniper rifle".

The Barrett M82A1 is a .50 caliber sniper rifle, which is only really optimal in certain specialized sniping situations.

The most common caliber for sniper rifles is .308 (7.62mm). .300 Winchester Magnum is popular with shooters who desire a bit more power. .338 Lapua is a fairly new round which is gaining favor with snipers who desire even more power.

The PC term for sniper is now "Precision Target Shooter."

Take a look at the Steyr SSG as a nice top-of-the-line "precision target rifle."

They are many excellent lower-cost alternatives to the SSG, of course.

Will.Spencer have ever tried using a sniper rifle? how's the experience? first time a held a rifle when i was in high school... but that rifle is a bit old i believe... it was a pretty cool experience but i didnt enjoyed it because i wasn't able to aim it well... oh well...

 

I have fired sniper rifles, but it's not really my thing because my eyesight is very poor.

I'm nearsighted, night-blind, color-blind, and wall-eyed. I've had LASIK twice, which has made the nearsighted part much better, but has no effect on the other conditions.

So... I spend more time with pistols. I don't have much need to kill anyone more than 30' away from me.

My most recent rifle purchase was a JLD Enterprises PTR-91.

This is an American-made clone of your rifle, except it is semi-automatic only.

It is manufactured in a factory that was purchased from H&K and shipped from Portugal to Connecticut.

Damn it's heavy.

I know all the scary people anyway so what have I got to worry about ... haha!

Shooting guns is pretty boring if you are doing it just for the sake of it, but hunting is tons of fun. If you like shooting, come to Australia and shoot some kangaroos, they are fast little buggers!

I'd like to own a few guns but I'm more likely to shoot someone (by accident... or maybe on purpose) so have told myself to stick to hunting only and when I visit a farm... with other people's guns.

What I'm really keen on hunting is Goannas (pic of a goanna). You have to chase them on foot initially with an axe or whatever else in the hope of cornering them (you will never catch them) it's close contact with an animal that can seriously hurt you so much more like hunting than just shooting something as it bolts for its life. Usually though even goannas get up a tree and then you can shoot them, not as good but anyway. Goannas taste better than kangaroos, kangaroo meat is for the dogs really.

I doubt anyone else in Australia would want to hunt goannas other than tribal aboriginals but it's something that I am just flat out wired to prey on.

Anyone else into hunting?
