I saw an ad in the front of this months MaximumPC that I stumbled on and thought I would share it with everyone. Netfirms GoTo: www.netfirms.com/max 2 FREE domains 20GB disk space 750GB BW (monthly) *ecommerce* (not sure what they mean by that) *design software* (probably some sort of web-based wysiwyg) 75 mysql databases Shell access 100 email addys I also saw that they will install wordpress for you as well when I went through the checkout. You have to go to www.netfirms.com/max AND enter the promo code MAX at checkout to get the discount. I figured it was a good enough deal to share with everyone. (and no, I'm not affiliated with netfirms)
Sound like a great deal! And I have heard recently that they have clustered servers which is an addon for those like me who need wildcarded functionality. Thanks for share it with us Greg
This deal doesnt make any sense to me $10 a year for 750GB!! BW (monthly) How in the world is that possible?
It is only 10 bucks for the first year! Then renew looks to be at least $120 per year. And they will automatically renew the 2 free domains you get. But I can not find what the fee is for renewal of domains. Or if you have the right to transfer those domains to another host. Like all good deals, the devil is in the details.
Like every other hosting company, they oversell bandwidth. They know that even though they're offering you 750GB a month, the chances of you using more than 30 are pretty slim. You don't have to register a domain with them if you don't want either. During the signup process, you can tell them you are using a domain registered with someone else and you'll just be pointing DNS to their server - so keeping your domain wouldn't be a big deal. I didn't go all the way through the process myself, so I don't know what the details are, but there isn't any fine print in the ad itself. If someone does sign up, be sure to post your findings.
I was about to complete the process but they say you can get 2 domain names for free. After tried twice I can only get in my order one domain so I'm back here to see if someone have any input about this. Even getting and renewing the domains through them and paying $120 for the second year, I believe this is a good deal... but I want those 2 domains to round the offer.
If you did take the free domain(s) they're offering, would you be able to transfer it to another registrar for renewal, after any lockout period? Or do you have to renew with them?
I'm not sure. However, since it's just a coupon code, I would imagine that you are agreeing to the original agreement. It seems to me you're not restricted in any way, shape or form.
i registered with them you get the second domain once you have signed up and billing has checked your details i think. takes about 2-3hours. The home made control panel is ok but i would have preferred cpanel. I cant find anything in the control panel to transfer the domain away from them just to them. I will paste a testfile once i have worked out how to set up addon domain(without transfering) for 3rd website as my current two domains i want to keep private. ok found it what is the best way to make a 100mb test file?
Cool! this the info I needed to know before proceed. I believe for the price there is not much to loose whatever is the loading speed of the pages as we can explore possibilities like host big files or find if any other control panel than Cpanel, Ensim or Plesk has something useful to offer
25 domain limit .... losses me. but for the rest for you.... is there a hidden requirment that you MUST also buy a 2nd year at reguler price?
Sounds pretty good. If you can host multiple domains on the account than 120/year is reasonable (basically the same as hostgator) and obviously 10/year plus 2 free domains is special.
I finally got this hosting offer. Great deal and true SSL shared access, this means you can access your site using https without need to intall your own certificate, though you have the option to get one and even a dedicated IP as addon to this package. Blazing FTP connection speed Their control panel is nothing fancy but offers the ability to switch between php4 and php5 at your convenience, besides of cgi, python and Ruby on Rails. And regarding the second domain, this is why I could not see it before:
Downside I came across: cron jobs not available yet. Still, the offer is outstanding I'm enjoying it to the full..
