John Chow and Shoemoney ARE NOT the Warren Buffets of the Internets. I'd compare them more to Jerry Falwell or Al Sharpton... they take advantage of stupid people (sorry for being blunt, JC/SM fans)

Ouch! lol well, I wouldn't say that. But to compare Chow To Buffett?

No offense, but you don't get out much, do ya? :)

He's just another blogger who got off his ass to advertise his blog, he kept at it, and now he sells space on it.

    It's not rocket science here.

He does around 200,00 hits a month, if that. That is average for the net. He got most of it by advertising. Um, wow! ... Advertise a site. ... What a feat, huh? :)~ And I'm sure he would agree.

I don't dislike him at all. In fact, I respect him for his honesty in telling how many hits he has gotten, and how much money he has made that one month awhile back. But he is not the cat's meow here. Well, for the inexperienced, he would be.

I think he means A1 guru's, trend setters etc. he did not mean people and companies that more or less own the internet ( if you follow )

Yes I think John chow and Darren Rowse are very powerful people in the internet community of money making and people do react to what they post about. I to have just made a blog about john chow. Its very new and I have not even indexed the site, but problogger has added me to one of his social networking links ( looks like i might be getting sued :p )

saying that John chow screwed up on his make money linkbait :) and google kisked his ass over it !

Um, I said they were the Warren Buffet of their niche, not Warren Buffet. Honestly, I do get out much, but I stand by what I say, they are trend setters and lots of people do follow what they do. To make over $100/ ECPM is pretty fantasitc, and I'd love for you to name me another blog in the Make Money Online Niche that makes $30,000 a month. Yes John knows what he's doing obviously. As for Shoe, he makes a fortune off ringtone marketing.

Neither of them "own" the internet. If you'd read the post fully you'd notice I've stated repeated times that they are like that for their unique NICHE.

rcj662, of course Buffet is in another league, hes the richest man in the world....

I don't know about the others, but I understood him completely.

Hey, I have nothing against the guy, and if he's your hero, and you believe what you read, more power to you. :)

If $30,000 a month is the earnings ceiling for a niche then its pretty clear that niche is NOT big internet business. Again, I would liken these guys to the get rich quick infomercials shown at 4AM on Sunday. They make their money by exploiting newbies.

affliliatethink and others - please dont take everything as literal. 30k ia month is BIG money, its small money compared to the turnover of microsoft but big in comparison of your sites :)

Perry "He does around 200,00 hits a month, if that. That is average for the net. He got most of it by advertising. Um, wow! ... Advertise a site. ... What a feat, huh? :)~ And I'm sure he would agree"

your alexa rating is approx 1.3million so thats what........less than 1k a month unique. speak when you are in position to comment with authority.

people flaming just because they dont understand the context in which its being said or too uneducated to work out the post.

Have you guys actually praised a post?? na, think not

buffet has overtaken gates as the richest man alive on earth. by the way, john chow only get to be so famous because he publicly disclose his earnings. I am sure there are people earning much more on the internet and have much smaller mouths. maybe in the make money online niche you have to really boast and boast, so as to attract?

Relax, ronmac, stop your whining. It just makes you look stupid. Please read my last reply to him. And if you also choose to believe what you read, that's your right, of course.

By the way, um, Alexa ranking has nothing to do with how many hits a site gets if that site isn't even on the World Wide Web's radar. There are, obviously, God knows how many sites out there that do tens of thousands of hits a day from advertising both off and online, and via word of mouth.

The Web is one fucking huge monster, and most users have just scratched the surface in knowing what is out there.

Do I get that many hits? Nope. Am I just starting, moving my consulting and writing from offline to online? Yup. Do I know my shit when it comes to advertising and marketing, and will be doing that same 200,000 before summer? Yup Is it hard to do? Nope. Should we get this thread back on track? Yup.

Son, try to think first before posting.

    Have a good weekend.

I totally get where you are coming from. In regards to influence on their target market both Buffet and Chow are similar. But when it comes to longevity...Chow just doesn't have the track record Buffet has. Will be interesting to see if he can though!

You do realize that while $30,000 per month is a nice figure for a simple blog, every doctor and lawyer with half a brain is making more then that ever year...

They're both sheep herders and people like you are making them (moderately) wealthy.

Honestly, I compared Chow to Buffet, what you guys aren't understanding is I'm not saying that Chow has 60 billion, please read the post before commenting.

For Chow to make over $100/Ecpm thats a phenomenal achievement for a blog. I don't follow his every move and I couldn't care less what he says but honestly, he does have influence and illustrates my point nicely.

@taylorwilsdon - compare the workload of Chow who gets tons of guest posters and posts reviews to the stressful life a doctor or lawyer.... point being that, if you train up go to school and actually are qualified for a good job you'll make tons of money, BUT, you don't necessarily need to do that to have a successful blog.

@ Perry Rose - I don't think you understand that you don't need to be negative with everything you say. Honestly, can you say you're making the same amount of money that Chow is? Are you making $30,000 with only 200,000 views? I'd wager you aren't at the current moment.

You don't need to flame the post or swear to prove that you're a good webmaster. Once you have your sites up and running and earning that should be testament to the fact. I hope that you realize that not everything is a fight. I'm not saying this to be a "brat" or "pick a fight", please don't take it that way. You do have quality things to say and I appreciate the feedback, both negative and positive.

@theanand - I did mention Shoe and Chow in the post. Please refer back to it and you'll see the extent of it. If I may quote:

"Well, the point I want to make is that in every economy there is that person(s) that can affect the economy by their actions alone. For this niche (Making Money Online), two people spring to mind, John Chow, and ShoeMoney. Both are A-list bloggers with an obscene amount of power."

@ bobbyt- many find a big check (aka Shoe's 100 grand check) or other impressive figure a good thing for the make money online niche blogs. Showing that you personally are making money will attract readers. With Chow its sort of snowballing as his blog continues to grow.

@ richkid - I think as the nature of the internet changes blogs like Chow will drift into obscurity. That being said, he's making one hell of a run :D
