Does Domain Age Really Matters in seo for Ranking??

Discussion in 'SEO' started by Amits, Mar 13, 2008.

    The query which is making me confused is:

    Does the Domain Age matters for better Ranking??

    If we compare two sites with the same niche and good seo but with different domain age. One site is new(4 months old) and second one is old(2 years Old).
    So, which site will rank better accordingly??

    Please guide me :)

    Age matters obviously, but there are other factors as well.
    • Content
    • Quick Updation
    • Layout (user-friendly)
    • white hat SEO
    • serch engine friendliness (getting most of its traffic from search engines)
    My site was ranked PR3 from zero right after 3nd month of its birth. though the more the age, the more mature your KW are, the more your site gets organic traffic. :p

    Age matters greatly. That is why people are always looking to buy expired domains that have age on them.

    Age doesn't really matter for SEO if you fail in those areas pointed out by Simrn. There are old domains with no content at all and no pagerank.

    But can a new site do better on SERP's if done proper seo as Simrn said:

    * Content
    * Quick Updation
    * Layout (user-friendly)
    * white hat SEO
    * serch engine friendliness (getting most of its traffic from search engines)

    and the old site with some of the part listed above. This can make a new site with much better SERP's then the old one with very few seo work but with the domain age.

    I agree with the previous comments.
    Age matters... but if you are good in providing relevant and updated content to the users, search engine will take it as a plus point over your less age on the internet space.

    Remember! Searchers want to get the related contents, they don't know how old that domain, google is smartly, he know what they are doing, so domain age is a factor, but not a main factor. If no related content with query results, it'll needn't google to search it. So i think google know it, domain age may be only used for anti spam, and new site which 2 years below domain will be effected, others shall not a main factor.

    If you make a prominent Update on your site.. then i don't think so that age will matter in such case.
    In my opinion it's a; about your dedication on your site..

    Age of the domain matters a lot and in some cases may get you out of trouble.

    You will get various opinions about this, I have never seen a new domain as a being a handicap, though domain age may be just one of the factors google takes into account. Google tends to see a website as a series of files, part of the trick is to make each file unique relevant and back linked to , by equally relevant authoritative external and internal pages This may overcome a lot of other limiting factors

    Domain age is measured for archiving contents. If a domain has no contents to archive even that domain is old, then that domain is worthless.

    Yeah, it matters, but I have to point out that it's not going to make up for many other possible weaknesses.

    Anyway, age matters, but look at the history of the domain and website that was associated to it.
    If it was banned, change of registrant, type of website and content.

    Domain age matters a lot. Just search Google for " Google Sandbox" and you will get the answers to your queries.
