What is Macromedia Fireworks for??

can anyone tell me whats the use of macromedia fireworks?

Macromedia Fireworks (also known as FW for short) is a bitmap and vector graphics editor, developed by Macromedia and aimed at web designers (with features such as: slices, the ability to add hotspots etc.). It is designed to integrate easily with other Macromedia products, such as Dreamweaver and Flash, and is part of the Macromedia Studio 8 suite.

You could compare it to photoshop from adobe.

 

fireworks is a good graphics software specially when it comes to web designing its the userfriendliness is one of the best feature of fireworks compared to photoshop...

 

As well as the good information already given, you can also create javascript and css popup menus (though I wouldn't recommend it) without any programming knowledge.

It can create gif animations and optimise your images (reduce file sizes) too.

Its very User Friendly, easy to get going and with time, easy to master

actully i love foreworks.... those who knows How to work with FW says that its even better then Photoshop,,, ( i also think that )

For web design Fireworks rocks, its that simple.

If you want to do serious graphics work your better using Photoshop.

 

Fireworks is not as advanced for editing raster graphics as Photoshop. It was created specifically to create web pages. The tools that Fireworks has make it a more useful graphic design platform for web designers. The HTML that is generated from slicing the graphics is far superior to any product out on the market. I would not choose Fireworks if I was manipulating photos, but if I was building a website, I would start with Fireworks.

 

I like a challenge.

Can you think of any photo editing you can do with photoshop that you can't do with fireworks?

I shall put this to the test in a clinical environment.

 

Off the top of my head, there are some advanced color matching and lighting effects that are far easier in photoshop. Not to say it can't be done in Fireworks, but Photoshop has more tools to make serious raster graphic manipulation easier.

 

I use Fireworks for everything. Don't even have Photoshop installed, mainly as i'm no artist.

 

I thought I was the only one in love with FW? I been with it since 2.0 and it's great. PS makes me want to beat my keyboard.

Yes. Try exporting an image out of Fireworks into either a CMYK or Pantone palette for print publication

If Fireworks could do that, I would uninstall Photoshop tomorrow. Fireworks is by far the superior application for Web graphic development. It's an above average bitmap editor as well, but a glaring weakness is its lack of support for print export settings. Oh, you can work in your canvas with a CMYK selector, but it's artificial - the file is still rendered in RGB format.

But this is hardly 'photo editing'. Also, Fireworks was never designed for print. For print you could use Freehand or Illustrator, but Fireworks wouldn't be the tool of choice.
