Google sandbox for expired domain

A domain expired in 2006. If I buy it, will I still feel sandbox effect for months. Or is it better then Never-owned domain?

 

My understanding is as long as the created on date doesn't reset you'll be fine.

In other words, you should be okay buying from owner or dropcatching, but not off the registry.
