    I don't know if this question has been asked and replied before, if so please point out in which thread, otherwise I was wondering what a phpbb forum administrator can see relating to the private areas of the forum users.

    Mainly, is there anyway he/she can read pms between users?

    And I mean anyway...

    Not through phpBB - but anyone with the right access privileges to the database can.

    oh right! so the owner/administrator can as he/she prob has access to the database! It's obvious (now)!

    But, not the passwords I suppose...

    Note entirely true. By default they can't. But I'm 99.9999% certain there is a hack to enable doing it.

    Hack to view passwords? No, there is no mod for that - it would never be released because it poses a serious privacy violation and nobody would ever approve of it. Passwords are encrypted...the only way of reading them would be to decrypt them, and that would require some fancy programming - nothing which is publicly accessible.

    Yes, but even without the pasword an admin can do things like that.
