    I see many directories rank well for both keyphrases. So does there any diff between a webdirectory & a businessdirectory? or all are same? :confused:

    Do both directories serves the same purpose? What's your take on this?

    Many web directories try rank high for "business directory" in google, as it brings a higher search volume. However a true business directory lists mainly business and commercial sites, such as online shops and organisations. A web directory, like DMOZ for example lists informative and non profit sites too.

    I haven't checked but i dont think a business directory would/should be listing online shops, unless their business related services, like a site that sells promotional products.

    It shouldn't be listing a site that sells handbags to the public, unless its a true wholesaler.

    For a business directory to be true then half the general categories you would find should be stripped out.

    A business directory should make most people click exist fast as most wouldn't be looking for the services and i bet would stumble on the directory by accident.

    Business.com lists consumer related businesses.

    To an extent, it could be said that the genus web directory also includes

    business web directories,

    however, the term business directory , before the web became our thing usually mean't some thing like the yellowpages, thereby including full contact details for all listed businesses.

    business directories, in the strictest sense are not web links directories :)

    Hope i am making sense :)

    Now I see why so many directories are calling themselves _____ Business Directory even though they are accepting any type of site.

    business directory = yellow pages

    I guess in my mind a 'business directory' should be only sites that sell a product or service. However, each directory owner would have to decide if affiliates and the pill peddlers would fit into that definition.

    A business directory should be such that it should list businesses (contact address, product details etc)......even when these businesses don't have an online presence.

    most of the so called online "business directories" are either general web directories or are restricted to online business-related sites.
