Are there absolutely free directory templates (PHPLD)

I was wondering are there actually any free directory templates? There are free ones out there but they usually require a footer link. Are there ones that does not require you to link back? I can't seem to find any.

There probably are, what is the problem with a footer link though, people spend a lot of time and effort into templates etc, it is usually on the exceptionally greedy people who want everything for nothing.

    And you probably wont... ;)

Sponsoring a template means that the sponsor paid a designer to make it
and offer it free to the general public providing they keep the link live...

If you feel you dont want the links then your best bet is to pay someone yourself for a
custom template which can run anywhere from $100 - $1000 then that issue becomes mute.

    thx

There is nothing free in this industry. Everything comes with a hidden condition. ;)

Well, I disagree on the 'hidden' condition :)

Clearly stated on these Free phpLD Templates, but for the design and beauty of them, how could one even complain :)

Sunny, i would have to agree with rob because nothing is hidden. On my free templates i have always had the TOS in there that the links stay ...

And so do I, some people just want it all and then some without so much as a thanks. Some even have the cheek to complain about the quality of the 'free' templates! Lamers.

Nothing is free on the world without any condition, Yahoo mail is free but you have to see advertisement. You are lucky that in my templates I did not added any 250px x 250px ads to use my free templates, just a footer link (designer credit link) there ;)

    Here is mine: phpLD Templates

Let me ask this question instead:

Has anyone given thought of offering free templates, but with another condition instead of requiring a sitewide back link? There are certainly other ways to offer free templates. A sitewide back link might not the best choice for the one providing it and for the one using it.

Anyone has any idea instead of requiring a footer link?

IMO there's no absolutely free templates exist. :(

Thanks mikey1090 for compiling such a nice list of free templates. (The link - themes.avivadirectory.com/phpld redirects to avivadirectory.com :( -no templates there.)
Directorymix's templates are very nice but there are no live demos.
vegabond's templates looks simple but elegant.

No problem. Seems Jeff is no longer allowing free templates.

I'm sure Rob will come up with a solution soon enough. Live demo switcher, Rob?

Yea, I have one playing around somewhere in one of these folders:
however, with a combined size of 95GB, errrrr that's a lot of looking. I'd be better off writing a new one instead. Maybe after I get this latest MOD done I will.

It makes little sense for someone to spend time doing something for others for free, without even getting a credit link for it. The best way to achieve a free no credit link directory template is to ask for it on any forum with hope some programmer/designer will give positive response.
