Now that "FREE SPEECH" doesn't work anymore, let's start on "NOT ILLEGAL" excuse. ;)

The problem is that DMOZ editors refuse to discuss the laws with their usual excuses, "We are not lawyers", "legal in what jurisdiction" and "this is the matter for FBI and courts" but with all their admitted lack of knowledge about law, they are sure that these sites are "NOT ILLEGAL".

You are already admitting that it is wrong and these sites should not be listed, so why these sites are listed? Is DMOZ going to come up with excuse that we don't like it, it is wrong, we are against it but because these are "not illegal", we are going to list it?

There's no point to discuss the exact same topic in two seperate threads except to hijack every topic with your own agenda. I'll continue discussing this in the thread where the discussion started. Others are obviously free to continue discussing it here, but I don't see the point of it...

I feel the same way, I just had to answer the nonsense about sites not being illegal since imocr posted here and you jumped on her bandwagon. ;)

Include me too. Some of us are quite confused by the animosity toward lmocr. We share the same point of view, the only difference in her posts and mine are in style. She tries to help explain the things she understands but doesn't agree with, while I'm much more simple minded. ;)

One big difference between you and lmocr and editors like her, annie, is that you are not doing your best to obscure the issues and thereby to deflect attempts to rid Adult of these scurrilous sites.

You just think you do. Will you stay on if DMOZ doesn't fix the situation and your effort as volunteer is helping an organization that helps pedophiles to victimize children? As fas as I know you from your posts, I don't think so. What do you think the answer of some other editors will be to the same question? ;)

gworld - will you stay on as an editor if "DMOZ doesn't fix the situation"? ;)

The big deal is (as stated) that the DMOZ is the basis of the google directory, although it has been discounted compared to three years ago, this still helps your rank in Google big-time. Once you are in the DMOZ you will get into Google's directory on their next update which is about every 4 months. This won't spring you into google, but look at Google's top 20 results for your search term and see how many of them are in the DMOZ, and you will be a believer, it is a big deal.

The fact that those two factors correlate doesn't translate to cause-and-effect. The same factors that make a site a Google top 20 result are probably going to make a site more attractive to a DMOZ editor but the DMOZ listing itself does not CAUSE the top 20 Google ranking. It's just another backlink.

    I agree.

    Correlation does not equal causation.

Monthly or possibly every two months. See : http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=683082&postcount=26

I agree entirely with Minstrel and Sid on the issue of correlation not causation.

Ok Stats man. In order to throw out the theory you have to disprove it, that is much easier than proving it anyways. And please don't ever use any of the three words again, this isn't school, and we've all been there. You should get negative rep for a stupid post like that. Trying to get your count up? Also, a DMOZ listing over time can become more than one backlink in what are sprecualted to be authority sites (eg foreign DMOZ pages and the Google Directories).

    1. I'm not generally in the position of defending sidjf but who bit your face this morning?

    2. You are mistaken about this statement:

Do a search for "duplicate content filter". You also spelled "speculated" incorrectly, if that sort of thing bothers you.

Wormser (60 posts) bumps a 10 month old thread for the sole purpose of flaming sidjf (465 posts) and accusing him of trying to get his count up....

Minstrel, please explain irony to the man with the bitten face. :D

is it absolutely essential to get in DMOZ. Every time I visit to submit it says they are not taking suggestions!
