Trying to wrap my head around targetted CPM campaigns

Discussion in 'Google AdWords' started by LaCabra, Mar 3, 2006.

I need a little help understanding how the targetted cpm campaigns work. I am releativly new to the adwords game but this is what I have done and need some feedback to ensure i'm not out to lunch.

Basically, I've gone with a .30 CPM campaign with a daily max of $2.00. I have selected to target about 15 sites. After 2 hours I do not see any impressions or clicks (obviously).

Should I just be patient and let things settle down or are my ads just not rich enough to have any impressions recorded? Or is it perhaps that the sites that I have targetted do not wish to run CPM campaigns.

Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Like always - thank you in advance!
    Frank

0 impressions: my best guess is that your ads has not been reviewed yet by an Adword Editor.

To be published in Content Network any Text or Graph ad need to Manually reviewed if it meet the editorial terms.

This takes normally 2-5 business day - so you may not see any impression/click until Monday or Tuesday.

There are several things- Did you just create this ad? Google has been reviewing certain new ads, or ads with any change. I've had it take 2 days in some cases - although it can be less - or more.

Reporting is delayed - so 2 hours might not be long enough for it to show up in reporting (google says 3 hours).

.30 might not be enough - it depends on the site. I've had some where $1.00 wasn't enough to get it to run.

Yes, it would send you a mail that your ad has been disapproved and put a lot of warning in your ad group the is impossible to do not see.

I think that your ad has not been approved yet. Today is the 4th business day and a normal period is 2-5 business day (...and it can take up to 7-9 business day in extreme cases )

It could also be that your bid is not enough to get the ads running. That's a big issue with Google CPM campaigns in my opinion. You have no way of kowing if your bid is sufficient to get the ads running...other than to keep upping it and waiting to see if you get impressions. I wish G would just include a requireed min bid on a per site level to get campaigns going. That would save a ton of time for the advertiser.

Sayles - what GuyFromChicago said is correct, if you still dont see your campaign start, try to increase your CPM and see if you start getting impressions.

Mjewel - does the CPM relates in anyway to the number of sites you chose?, what I mean is, say you selected 500 sites, should your CPM in this case increase to get impressions?.

No. The required CPM is contingent on the current eCPM of the target site(s).

Correct. That's why CPM ads via AdWords can be a PITA right now. Week one you have no idea if you're not getting impressions becuase your ad hasn't been approved or if you're not bidding enough.

Sayles - I have e-mailed google and they replied to me saying that my campaign was just under review and it was accepted.

If you still dont see impressions, you should e-mail them, they will reply within a day or so.
