I have a invison power board forum, i added some metatags in the header myself, question is will this be sufficient? Im not totally sure how seo works with forums to be honest! If anyone knows or has any ideas, they will be appreciated greatly! Thanks
No, that is far from sufficient. Optimization on forums is done the same way it is done on other websites. Putting up some metas maybe will help like 1%.
thats what i thought! I have done the usual directory submissions, link exchanges, forum sig links etc... i just wondered whether there was a different method for IPB, like a seo plugin/mod etc...
I don't know about IPB, as both my forums were developed by myself, and I did the optimization during the development stage. Also, link exchanges are great, but usually they are harder to get than just doing the on-pag optimization, which should be the first step in SEO.
I have a forum my self "kidu.info", its a phpbb3 forum. There are so many things that haf to be sayed about forum seo ... but you can start by changing all of your forum urls to static urls for better indexing. Also a sitemap submited with the help of google webmaster tools.... As far as meta tags are involved ... its alot of work for forums because theyr not like a webpage where you build your page from scrap and add meta tags by hand to all the pages. Forums are mainly php based and more dinamic then a web page... what i recomend doing is finding some suport for your IPB forum and try to get modes like auto meta tag creator, optional title, mode rewrite, and others. I have been told that bookmarking your posts is a good way to get google to index mode of your forum. Good luck
