Have you ever wondered why craigslist does not have ads on their site? They must be crazy they have an Alexa ranking of 65. They can easily get 100k's a months from Adsense. What do you think is wrong with them? They hardware and the cost of keeping that site up has to cost alot

I think its more like a business policy issue. They earn about $11M per year as I saw on an interview with Craig Newman on TV. And they have communist people running the business, probably doesn't like much money:)

There focus is on posted ads, and contextual ads from adsense would dillute their main source of income. If they are making big money, I see no reason to upset their existing users.

They probably are quite wealthy, and I'm sure that does have something to do with it. :)

    Yup.

Enjoy craigslist while you can, before it the new FEEbay ceo Donohoe turns into another commercialized monster, taking 10% commissions off every sale and screwing its members in sneaky, deceitful and painful ways.

Not all ads are free to post. They charge for some of the ads like Job postings in NYC and SF area.

They earn from sponsored postings and donations.

Adsense is not a good way for classified type sites.

    Agreed :)

The way they are earning at the moment , it is not suitable to integrate adsense into their site :)

Like you all said so, craigslist has its own dignity, maybe they just don't want the Big G ads to appear in their site.

Furthermore, craigslist is a billion dollars worth and I think they don't need some 'Mercy' income from the Big G as well...

It cost $25 to post one single job listing. Look at how many job postings there are in each city and you'll find out how much they are making.

Q: Where does craigslist's revenue come from?
A: Our exclusive revenue source comes from the fees we charge businesses to post jobs. In the Bay Area, businesses pay $75. This August, we also began charging New York City and Los Angeles employers $25 per posting.

did you even bother to look around craigslist before posting this topic? Jobs and real estate sections in large cities are paid ads.
