Give them something they would want to read for subscribing.

If you are building a Chicken Soup List, write a paper titled "Top 10 Mistakes People Make When Making Chicken Soup" and offer it via email. :D

There are many different ways to build lists, but some of the better proven ones are where you have your own fire sales, and or JV Giveaways. Both of these require some time and effort on your part but the results can be beyond what you thought. JV Giveaways are somewhat new to the market, and have shown a very high rate of success in building a list. But I must caution you with this method, that if you do not run it with integrity you can hurt yourself more than help. Do not allow just the same old stuff that has been around on the internet for the last decade to be used as the free gifts, demand new fresh content that will benefit your signups. This way you will have max. list building, along with thankful signups for getting fresh stuff that has not been around for ten years. If you would like more info on this feel free to pm me. :)

    hey...
Have you ever thought of squeeze pages as gateways to your own websites? what you do is you create a page that will make people interested and eager to see what's next, but you tell them that they can only see what's next if they sign up, and after they do, the "thank you" page is the actual what's next... I hope this is clear enough.

There are so many creative methods to build an opt-in list.

Let me share couple of very successful ones very quick:

    1) Ecommerce Site, having problems customers signing up to their email list (less than 2% of the customers used to sign up to their email list). When I started doing their consultancy, I gave this advice:

Send customer an email 1 minute after first purchase. Tell them thank you blah blah for being a first time customer, etc. etc. and if they sign up to the email list, we will upgrade your shipment to expedited for FREE.

Guess what's their current percentage signups? 96% of the new customers sign up to the list :)

    2) One of my personal/business blog, I have offered a 30 pages ebook written by me if they signed up to my list, and my list kept growing, growing, growing soo fast :)

Just be creative, and try to find more methods to increase your list.

Here's a 10 Steps Email Marketing Guide , it might help to get some general creative ideas.

    Good luck.
