Buying links on ebay any good?

Im trying to improve my SEO and thought i'd type "PR6", "PR7" into ebay and see what came up.

I found an ad for 1 link on a PR6 homepage for $30 it seemed like a bargain so I bought it as there were only 2 links in total on the page...

I mean just 2 outward links on a PR6 for $30 that has gotta be good right and get me on the google radar?

So I did the "Buy it Now" sent my business URL and about the next day I got my response e-mail with confirmation of the page and my link, all in place and working. Woo Hoo I thought. Only thing is, I use SEO elite V4 if your not familiar with the program it checks website URL's and tells you their stats like PR and who they link to etc, any backlinks etc, any duplicate IP's (i've found it really useful to quickly see where my competitors are advertising and try and get links from the same sites)

Now im really waffling on but what im trying to say is when I thought afterwards that I would type the homepage URL of the site I bought the link on it came back with google PR of N/A and i've always found that SEO Elite always so far has returned spot on results.

    So whats going on here?

Have I been tricked? Is it possible to fake PR?

    Any ideas please,

    Ben

Yes, Pagerank can be fake. I never recommend using SEO software since everything they do can be done for free. Using the Google toolbar is one of the other accurate ways to check a web pages Pagerank, also to check multiple data centers for Pagerank is a smart choice.

    Thanks great info,

Got me googling and I found this:

    http://www.seologs.com/pr-check/pagerank.html

Superb little online checker, you pop the URL of the website you want to check and it lets you know whether they are fraudulently grabbing their PR from another high PR site.

As it happens it seems my $30 site link buy is genuine :) however this site demonstrating how some sites can fake PR:
www.pr10.darkseoteam.com/pagerank-5.php comes back as fake (showing it works)

I'm new to websites and SEO (have just made my first site) and learning new stuff every day, so is this common knowledge amongst you guys?

Google bot will detect and back links that are not related to your website information, it will drop considerably even if it has a high PR to start with, buy back links that are related to your website. or your in all accuality , waisting your money. Or if your a website designer use your portfolio pictures and enter your key-words as the alt text, as i have i own the first two and a half pagesof this key word combination. Those are all the website i have designed, hope this helps,

global website portfolio search google for that and look at the bottom of the index pages youll see globalwebsitecreations.com

Most of the PR's are faked and the traffic is overestimated.
