Make a good post, a really good one, and put a lead in to it in your signature. This will be how you "bait" your audience. Make sure the post is valuable, it will get people to come back again and again
You could join forums and post relevant comments as you have done, or if you really want to do some work, you can write articles for syndication with your blog address in your mast head. A good article can generate some good traffic. Syndication services include: GoArticles and EzineArticles.
Post, post, and post some more. People focus too hard on the marketing and money when they first start a website or blog, but the truth is, content is king. Sure, you can't make money without visitors, but without content, people are going to leave and not come back. Start posting for a month or so and then really start to get the marketing in gear (without forgetting about the posting). While you post, you can always submit to directories or do link exchanges and such, but I really consider loading more content on to your site. Good luck with your blog!
