Why Can't People Be Honest When Selling A Website

Ok so this bothers the crap out of me!
Every time I see a site for sale here are the top reasons for selling.
My health is bad I need to get rid of it.
I need money for diff projects.
Im not interested in it anymore.
    My partner screwed me.
I can no longer run it.
And more and more lame reasons.

Lets be honest. The reason you are selling your friggin website is to make some dang loot! Right! I mean c'mon you got a site, you set it up, you got traffic to it, now you want to cash in. Everyone is so sneaky for their reasons for selling. Just sell them straight up!

Anyways thanks for letting me vent, just drives me crazy lol.

These are reasons that stop people from keeping the site and making money over time. Obviously they need money. Why else would they be selling it?

The good thing is, it's usually very easy to identify right away what sites are "legit" and which ones are just a bunch of bull...

Why wont people come clean when robbing a bank?

Why wont people come clean when crookedly receiving bribery funds?

Why wont people come clean about ripping you off insurance?

Hmmm, what do they all have in common? I’m thinking money?

Another thread where someone is asking a question they can answer themselves. *sigh*!

    BTW, you know what's funny?

When they make up all sorts of reasons to sell a website, other than for profit, and they just set it up!

And soon after they put another one up for sale.

Decided I would jump in here... for some it IS their business. I am always making sites and flipping them. Why? for a few reasons: yes, it is extra cash and no I really don't need it that bad, believe it or not I like the challenge of trying to come up with new concepts or design, and even testing SEO methods. This is not my primary money maker, but I enjoy it, just plain and simple. But... I do agree with the no lame excuses arguement, and I will not try and rip people off. I will sell a site based on what I think it is actually worth at the time of sale by looking at current traffic, monetization and domain value. Just my 2 cents! :D

    Legally, you can't misrepresent.

As for the reasons for the sale, well, they shouldn't be relevant. Only laughable. :D

I agree with you about people misrepresenting. that is why when buying you should ask for stats if they are not already shown. And yes for some it may be all about the money. After all that is the purpose of selling anything...profit

When I bought a site, I will as the seller to add me in his/her google analytic account so that I can see the stats for myself. If they can't provide that, I backed off.

Those are not excuses, most do need money and those are reasonable causes for them to sell the sites.

and you cant blame them for selling again and again if they said "for new project".

most scammers don't give excuses or anything and do go straight foward for deals though. If thats what you like, DP got few as well. :)

Good points OP! I am laughing histerically when I see in the ad "it takes about 10 minutes a day to run" and in reason for sale "have no time for it anymore". Simply LMAO

I only bought two dudes out of a dozen or so in the past few months. The one took me a few weeks to discover that 90% of the traffic was spam traffic. Once I changed the e-mail for the comments to my e-mail I got 30+ a day.....all spam traffic and comments. The other site was even worst but I left a positive i-trader before I found the truth.

Overall 80% of the sites that I bought were sold by stand up people. In hindsight if I read and understood the sticky thread in the site section I might not be posting this.

Right thats too funny, but so true. Thanks for the input.

LIke a few of you said, sure its a business, but sometimes I just get frustrated with the lame reasons and wanted to vent.

Also like someone else said you can usually figure out of the site is a winner via the reason its being sold. Well.. most of the time.
