Hi ... definitely disagree, too. google just increased its estimate of my back links and there are at least 600 from DP. Far as I can see, DP does good, if you'll pardon the grammar. Interested to read what others write about the worth of links to DP.

I also disagree. Linking to DP should have little to no effect. Now linking from DP to my sites (such as in my signature) has always helped my rankings.

    That link is total BS

Linking to another site drops only PR (wich is worthless so who bothers with it)

    Rankings nope

Nice to know that you are not following the crowd.

I'm with you (having the same view).

In fact the opposite is probably true. If you link to Digital Point, and you're in the "biz", ie Internet Marketing of some sort, you might be able to help your ranking. Google likes to know what "neighborhood" you hang out in.

Hi ... does my sig link to DP. Seems it's DP linking to me. Plus, there's the neighbourhood aspect. Even if you guys don't agree, with me, google thinks it's nice that we hang out. :):):)

Definitely disagree. There's no way that linking to DigitalPoint would hurt your rankings in any way. DP is a valuable site. Those who came up with that conclusion have jumped to conclusions. There's probably a much better reason their page isn't ranking - they need to dig a little deeper.

If your site is related to the forum topic it will not hurt site to link to digitalpoint. One link out as long as it is not a bad link will not make much difference

Well, DP is PR NR so it may be true. Not!

Do some research. Posts here normally rank well and fast. That's an indicator of an authoritative site.

Do a Google search for "linking to digitalpoint harms your rankings ?" without the quotes and see what I mean. :)

I highly doubt that would hurt our rankings.

If such is the case, will any one ever dare to buy the signature links from the much sought after dp forum? On the contrary, it helps to increase your PR because of the total number of backlinks. Aye to dp signature links :D

I don't think it will do any harm but that is only my opinion. The only proof he has is the fact that one of his posts isn't ranking well so a search term.

Alright i'll agree to the crowd as well. But i was curious, there's so much out there to read and the best way for me to research it is to discuss it with you guys. its true that although my "new" site has been added to some directories and linked in other websites but the first one that googled indexed was DP. I think the story is quiet the opposite of my topic. :p

You guys are putting forums.digitalpoint.com into the same basket as www.digitalpoint.com

The forums are fine, its the www.digitalpoint.com domain that has a penalty and is classed as a bad neighbourhood by Google. Don't believe me? Search for these:
    http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=digital+point+coop&btnG=Google+Search&meta=
No sign of this page: http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/ad-network/

    http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=digital+point+geo+visitors&btnG=Search&meta=
    No sign of : http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/geovisitors/

These 2 pages have millions of incoming links and have been manually removed from the Google results.

In summary, links to or from the forums are fine, link to the main site and your page might get a penalty.
