I just found these UK guys. I mean they surely are editors in DMOZ. But is asking money for informations of your submission, ethical ? Or isn't that against DMOZ TOS ?
This is not only against DMOZ-TOS, this is blank stupid. Be asured that this is not going to last, nice find!
They were quick at taking that page down. No Google cache, but MSN have the cache: http://cc.msnscache.com/cache.aspx?q=2923119640983&lang=en-US&mkt=en-US&FORM=CVRE
I see what you mean... It just shows that theiry are guilty. They proved it to themselves. In my opinion, that website should disapear from DMOZ. Currently listed in Regional: Europe: United Kingdom: England: Cheshire: Sandbach: Business and Economy And it's such a shame for them. They are even Adwords Certified.
Well from an external view of the 'complete' website it meets all of the "sub category" requirements - the company is located in Sandbach, Cheshire, UK and involved in Business_and_Economy activities, so should it be there? Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Cheshire/Sandbach/Business_and_Economy/ An editor offense doesn't mean that "everything they did is an offense".
If it was my directory they'd be gone just to spite them. However if the site meets the criteria for that category and is adding value to the directory then it may well remain listed.
How can a site add value when it is misleading the value of the directory. When a law applies to an ex-editor, a law should apply to an ex-site too. It is too obvious that the site has used the directory contrary to what it stands for. So should you say that it has value to the directory? Just a reminder again if this is adding a value for the directory. http://cc.msnscache.com/cache.aspx?q...n-US&FORM=CVRE
Well - since they [likely] cannot fulfill on their promise now - I would think they will likely remove said content. In any case - a link to a website isn't a legal matter - and suspect a Meta will review the listing and determine valid or not. [merely stating an opinion].
fathom, fathom, fathom We are on the same team but not maybe on the same boat. Have you ever heard the term accomplish to a crime. As a webmaster you have rules to obey. If it was your site would you allow that to be published in your site knowing your listed in DMOZ. Talk about ethics and gratitude please.
Well - I don't believe all crimes are life sentences nor do I believe sanitation of useful websites for a topic or region is a necessary step. The website was 'likely' listable and likely listed without the offense, and since the offense page [section] is gone and the editor is gone - the spirit of DMOZ IMHO is preserved. Others may disagree and may even invoke a life "no listing" sentence - well ok.
fathom, too much time spent underwater affects judgement in some cases. the spirit of DMOZ IMHO is preserved. This is an added blow to the injury we have already at the public perception point of view. We are here to correct things and help the ODP, not publicized our dreams.
