Hi today i received a link from a trusted contact in my msn list so i had no worries on clicking it..it said so of course i wanted to check it out, as soon as i did it ran through my whole contact list in a matter of seconds and i had no control over my computer. If you get one like this do not open it. And I apologize to anyone in my list who also clicked to see what it was, it's beyond my control.
I'm running a scan now and had to pull my dsl plug to keep it from continuing.. It was weird and I hope it doesn't cause anyone to lose out on work like I have for the last 30 minutes or so.
well atleast its not a very bad virus/worm, since your computer is still working and u didnt lose data, i have seen worst, i hope everything will be ok, and next time dont execute jpg.exe files, but i admit the message was catchy..
Yes thanks GetJimmy, I am scanning now, it has already fixed one issue but I'm wondering if all the people who weren't showing online also received this message from me as an offline message that could possibly infect them. I only had like 75 contacts who were actually online at the time it took over. And another couple hundred who weren't online.
So is it safe to say that the trusted contact was trying to send you a virus? I hope you get this worked out, I can imagine how frustrating this can be to have this happen. Hopefully you get this nasty virus out of your computer.
Make sure you sign off and then run a scan with NOD32, there is a trial version. What antivirus are you using now (don't say norton)?
Then I won't say it, I did sign out immediately as soon as i could get it to, I had to pull the plug on my dsl in order to do so.
Okay. Norton is a resource hog and the definition updates aren't very good. Try the 30 day trial of NOD32, it's the lightest antivirus there is, and it has awesome detection rates.
I think my Norton already zapped it but thanks for the information about the other product. It's funny how you don't realize how much you rely on something until it's no longer there for use. I miss my little msn box, but I refuse to open it back up until my scan is completely finished and all issues have been fixed.
Shame. You may want to get a malware detecter too. I have several viruses right now that all the major anti virus softwares can't remove. Some smaller more targetted programs did though. Good luck!
one of my computer just got infected yesterday with unknown too. I had to format and reinstall my windows.
Basic rule; Dont accept a file unless you know the format of it (.zip is dodgy! Blatently noone is going to send you a whole album of pictures in a zip file [especially seeing as in most cases they say its on their myspace]) Have some common sense and your sorted - its the most vital internet security. Ya, I ended up deleting one of my favorite contacts because every time I would log in it would start all over again, I had reports from another contact that I sent them the link 3 times in total. But I think I have it fixed now.
OMG I hoped it's fixed, I was sick all afternoon over it. I am still running the message in my msn message spot to NOT OPEN ANYTHING FROM ME..lol
