The page views of my site www.narutowallpaper.biz (15,000 uniques per day, 75,000 page views) increased by 20% overnight because I had the banner redesigned, from 75,000 to 90,000 page views. I guess people like the site more since it looks better.

Feel free to read my little writeup about it at Marketing Hub or check out the new banner at www.narutowallpaper.biz.

    DESIGN MATTERS! :)

    Congrats.

It would be nice if you could post the old banner. That way there's something to compare?

oops my bad, you did. It's on your marketing site.

A 20% increase in PV is great when I thought it would be a trivial change.

That's pretty interesting, I didn't think the layout to change your visitors that drastically. Did you actually test it out a couple times or was it a one time thing and it just happened to increase?

Each day it is 80% new visitors, about 20% are return visitors.

It didn't change the amount of visitors, it changed the page views per visitors from 5.5 to 6.5. It has been constantly higher since the banner change. With 15,000 uniques I think it's a pretty accurate average PV/visitor.

Thanks, it has been at 7.0 PV/visitor today and 6.5 yesterday compared to 5.5 before the change, I doubt it will exceed 7.0. The banner will pay itself off in days! :D

wow , that is a great change, was that just because of the banner change or you did something else as well with the site??

    It's Alexa rank 11,000 and it's 6 months old.

The banner was the only change, I guess people view more pages because they like the look of the website.

Yes, that's why we always need to be testing. I think you should always be split testing at least one thing at a time. Test your banner, your headline, audio/video, whatever. The point is you should always be able to have some sort of measureable quantity so that you can decide the winner. If you maintain that focus, you should be able to drastically improve your results in almost no time flat.

I think the new banner with the larger characters is much more engaging. I am curious what happened with your bounce rate.

Also, I am not sure if that was intended, but the new banner is not linked to your homepage.

I think the bounce rate stayed the same, which is 35%, it is a little high since I am targetting broad keywords with lots of searches like 'Naruto', 'Sasuke', 'Gaara'.

I'm not sure if I should link the banner or not, I'm testing heatmapping at the moment so I'll decide after seeing how many people click it assuming it's a link.

None, it was just more boring. You can see both banners at the Marketing Hub link.

nice site man......frankly i didn't like the banner as much as i liked the whole design of the site.....the color combination is not good.....it'll look way better if it was white or black rather than yellow/orange.....

Doesn't make sense that just changing the banner would do that. How would people know you got your banner changed to view your site? I think banner change would just affect the bounce rate.

They don't need to know it. When they notice that the layout is nice they visit more pages of the site.
