    This is what I've noticed

Cheap people use notepad++ or other free programs
Younger codes who think they are the bes use notepad
People who want productivity use dreamweaver

I use Dreamweaver CS3. It saves me a lot of time and creating a valid page is not a big deal with this software.

But, still notepad has its own value. No software can take its place.

That's a rather stereotypical assumption you're making there, don't you think? I'm a very productive person and I AVOID Dreamweaver like the plague (I also have no problem using Notepad though I do have a preference for Edit+).

Well it's a general outline I've noticed. With dreamweavers built it tag closer and built in functions it makes coding a lot easier. Although most of us can code a page using notepad it's not as productive as dreamweaver that's all I'm saying.

I'm a fan of UltraEdit for simple tasks such as pure markup/css/javascript coding, minor script adjustments or when just playing around. When it's a serious task, however, I switch to Zend Studio.

So you're not saying that cheap people use free, open source programs, right?

If by cheap you mean new to the game and haven't made any money yet then yes those are usually the peeps who use free open source programs in this business. After you make some money you start to purchase more and more things. Just look at servers for instance you usually start out with a free server or like 2$ a month. As you make more and more money you start to upgrade until you're on a dedicated server. This is just a rule of thumb and what I've noticed over the past 5 years in the business. I know everyone is different though, I'm just going by the majority.

You have a point. But I don't think it's because of financial problem. You don't need a dedi when your site only has a couple of hundreds visitors a day, this has nothing to do with having more or less money in your pocket.

That was just an example maybe not the best example though lol. I'm just trying to say what's the point of buying anything at first when you don't even know how long you will actually do this business. That usually why you opt to go with the free programs at first.

You see though, not everybody finds that to be helpful - I found it to be a literal annoyance and a royal PITA which is why I stopped using Dreamweaver. Ironically, the very day I stopped using it, I started becoming a much better coder.
