It's different, Will. Ataturk isn't just a hero, he is a god in Turkey. His picture hangs in every single house with pride and respect. Insulting Ataturk is the ultimate sin. Don't get me wrong I think a government banning a website is utterly ridiculous, I just don't think you can compare Washington with Ataturk.

Youtube isn't the only website that Turkey banned. They also banned Slide.com and Wordpress for awhile.

The difference isn't between Washington and Ataturk, the difference is between how people think about them.

Ancestor worship is not usually found in advanced cultures.

BTW, Pakistan just blocked YouTube. Turkey now has more company at the bottom.

    loudbeats:

Do I try to ban everything I don't like on the Internet?

No, of course not, that would be childish.

But that's just exactly what the government of Turkey did -- and it was childish.

It doesn't matter what you think -- as long as you don't try to force your silliness upon other people.

What you support or what I support is unimportant, as long are we agree to let the other person believe as they want.

The government of Turkey did not do this. They acted aggressively to control what other people are allowed to say and hear. They limited my personal freedom -- and I'm not even Turkish!

    Please, think before you post.

And what makes you think Turkey should give a damn about your personal freedom (plus, it has nothing to do with freedom even, your freedom ends where others' freedom start) when you're not even Turkish?

It appears that Turkey doesn't have any respect for freedom at all.

That's a sad statement to make about a nation that is, in other ways, trying very hard to become part of the modern world.

Aww... the little man tries the same idiotic censorship tactic as his childish government. How cute!

You can't confine the truth any more than your government can. :)

I was on the streets participating in freedom protests, having fights with cops in defence of freedom and human rights when you were sitting in your warm house drinking your coffee, making stupid and nonsense statements about what freedom is ;)

Sure, sure you were. And now you've switched sides entirely. You're protesting for the forces of oppression -- because you believe that you have the moral right to decide what is acceptable for other people to say, hear, and think.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

Ah, are you still talking? This is the last message I'll post in this thread, I'm not gonna waste my precious time arguing with you about what freedom is when you're a hopeless case. You should first go and learn what freedom is, because it's definetely not what you think it is. If there is anyone who should be ashamed, that's you obviously.

    Set your DNS as 4.2.2.1 / 4.2.2.2 - it'll solve the problem.

Everybody is free to do what he want. So there is no sense to block sites.

Thanks, but I just use a proxy or Ktunnel to watch it now.

I was using treewalk, but they even banned that. Bastards.

Totalitarian governments are slow to learn. :(

All the idiots in the Turkish government have achieved is giving control of their Internet connectivity over to any idiot who can post a video to YouTube.

Want to kick the entire country of Turkey off of YouTube, just post a video!

Who loses? Not the video posters and not YouTube -- it's the Turkish people who lose.

YouTube as well loses. Do you have any idea how much traffic YouTube gets from Turkey daily? I don't think so.
