Question: How to start process of getting advertisers?

Hi. Any information that you could loan here would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a radio host by trade and have owned/ran my website for four years now. I'm not on the air right now. (Being unemployed in radio is common these days.) Since being unemployed I've changed my site a lot. It now features funny and interesting videos, humor, audio, etc. The slant I use to differentiate my site from other sites that only feature funny videos is A) My hugely popular blog entitled "THE DAILY DUMP" and B) My live shows and audio clips from professional studio I have at home. (I do live shows on blogtalkradio.com)

I have Google Adsense. I just started using it, and its doing okay.

I am getting an average of 1,800 unique's per day, btw.

What I would like is to have a few passionate sponsors for my site. I don't expect to get rich, but I think I'm at the point now where I could garner some business for myself and a few appropriate clients.:D

I've been in radio for NINETEEN years. (37 yrs old) So I am NOT a business man. I am - to be honest - AWFUL at it. I don't even know where to begin. I luckily found this forum through a search.

    My website is godofradio.com

I have THREE URL's, which I know is insane. 1) www.godofradio.com is the main one. 2) kramershow.com and 3) gawncrazy.com (GOD OF RADIO was a joke between my old audience and myself. Its an irreverant name; not meant to be pompous.)

I spend a LOT of time updating the website!! A LOT!!! Its paying off in that people are coming, but why waste my time if I am not making money. Right now I am a stay at home DADDY, so I can grow this thing further.

Alright, enough babbling. If any of you can offer advice on:

    HOW DO I FIND ADVERTISERS?

WHAT DO I NEED TO CHANGE ON MY WEBSITE?? (I KNOW THERE ARE MANY!)

UPON REVIEW, WHAT SORT OF ADVERTISERS SHOULD I GO AFTER?

I thank you VERY VERY much. This is a serious post from someone serious about asking for help. Anything I can do in return for you that offer help will be done. If you'd like a link from my site to yours, consider it done!!

    Kramer

Before trying to find advertisers, you will need to make sure that they will find in your site what they need (traffic, in most cases, targeted audience etc.), and that it guarantees them a decent ROI on their advertising $$$. Do you have online communities on your sites? Analytics data on your site audience?

High PR and good Alexa rank would help as well.

    The ALEXA ranking is growing.

I have graphs and all sorts of data. I don't have AGE break downs or anything like that. I would assume that's near impossible, but I know its mainly MALE leaning. As said, I'm getting an average of 1,800 visits pers day. Thanks for the post. Where do I even start? Should I email websites directing them to a link about adveertising on the site?

I haven't really gotten a whole lot of response, and after looking around, I cannot find any very helpful hints online on how to accomplish what I'm wanting. Can ANYone offer up some suggestions? Thanks very much.

Your Alexa rank is over 1.3 million. If an advertiser was to use that criteria he won't be interested by your site.

You don't seem to have any analytics software installed on your site (at least not Google Analytics). How do you prove that you have 1800 uniques a day?

Start by creating a page on your website for potential advertisers. State there your monthly traffic (if you attach screenshots it's a plus), talk a little bit about history of your website and basically put there everything you think might be relevant for the advertisers. Try to put yourself into their position and create the advertising page accordingly.

Don't forget to place a link to your advertising page in the main navigation so potential advertisers don't miss it.

Only creating advertising page won't make your business. You have to contact the advertisers by email or by phone. Do a little research in your field and gather a couple of companies/websites which could be interested in advertising on your site. Write them an email and offer them advertising. You can't lose anything.

I hope it gives you some idea where to start. Good luck with your business!

    Thanks a lot.

I actually have an "ADVERTISING" link on almost every page of my site. If you would go to the site and see what I've outlined, tell me what you think about that price. I thought it to be more than fair. I as well have some screen shots on the bottom of the ADVERTISING page proving my viewership.

I really would like some input on that price. Again, thanks very much! Like I said, I'm a RADIO GUY, not really a business guy.

You probably want to work with another ad network besides Google AdSense, depending on your current CTR rates. Throw in some CPM ads-you get paid every time someone views a page with the ad.
    www.freedomofads.com/register for one

For direct ad sales, make sure an advertise here link is prominently displayed, usually at the footer. On that page, provide different ad opportunities. Describe the types of visitors you get. I gather that your site is mostly local, so contact some local businesses using the Yellow Pages as a guide, and see if they are interested in sponsorships.

Your ideal price for direct ads is $1-2 CPM. CPM stands for cost per mille- basically, cost per thousand views of the ad. Or, if you're selling monthly, go for $75- $100 for a 468 x 60, $150 for a leaderboard, $35 for a 125 x 125, and $100 for a 300 x 250

If you're really desperate, look at popunders as well.

Ya know, I definately signed up for the right forums for help!! Awesome.

I was way overshooting. Although the price I have is set for the LIVE SHOWS and for ON MY FORUM as well, that gives me a much clearer picture of where I need to be.

What's the most effective way of making money with a website? I know that is a broad question, but I'm getting about 1,500 to 2,000 unique daily visits. With that kind of traffic, I should be able to make some cash, right? I can't see getting rich from it, but I am VERY curious about the potential for money.

I put a LOT of time into my website. Am I wasting my time thinking that one day the pay off will be there or is it a lost cause?

Anyone? I'd appreciate an educated answer.

you could also perhapse sell ad space on your radio show. Saying something like I would just like to say thank you to "company name" for helping to support your show.

Thanks Tony. If you go to my website, click ADVERTISE, I've put together a package deal where you get a mentions on the live show, an ad on the #1 most viewed page on the site, AND get added to the NEWS FADER on my forums. My price is $400 monthly. (SEE "ADVERTISE" for specifics.)

I thought it to be fair. Maybe I'm over shooting?

BTW, what do I have to do to gain access to the ADVERTISE section? There is a LOT of rules around this forum regarding where a new member can go and things we can do. Can someone direct me to where the rules are regarding permissions?
