Had fun the day before yesterday while we were out in the backyard. We've had a bunch of warm days recently and so the dandelions are starting to make a push. And of course flowers attract bugs...cool! This first guy, an "assassin bug", was none too interested in what I had to offer. Not only was I scaring away potential prey, I was in his face! These guys tend to bolt as soon as they see you...I was only able to get ~ 3 shots of him. Dandelions, I believe they make up 17% of my entire back lawn...but surprisingly I have spent little if any time photographing them. The closer I got they more interesting they became...I guess I've never really looked @ one up close before! Dandelion seedlings...no, I did not send them flying afterwards Butterfly dude...was awesome, he let me go to town and fire off about 17 pictures and he did not budge the entire time.
here's my 2nd, soon to be 4th child setup: Canon 40D, + Sigma 105mm Macro, + Kenko 68mm Extension Tubes, + Sigma Macro Ring Light Flash, + Dew for scale :-D significance: the ring light (macro) flash allows me to hand hold and take these shots @ 100ISO which would be IMPOSSIBLE without this type of flash or an external flash or the pop-up flash.
well sure, it's the spotted grape eye moth tks ;-) thank you sir. I went out the next day and found some bees...still on the CFC though!
thanks! :-D afternoon double feature! to give you an idea, the 2nd picture....it's a weed actually and the size of that entire 'blossom' is only like the size of a nickel...which just gives you a sense of scale of how close I can get!
before & after :-P this was the closest I could get to the butterfly guy, this is full frame mind you not a crop!
Apart from the good photographs, the "TBPA - Tim's Backyard Photo Adventure" caption looks very good. Probably you can register a domain in that name, add your collections and monetize it too
:O It does look more like a moth! Or maybe not.. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_difference_between_a_butterfly_and_a_moth
the closer I look at him the more I saw the camouflage...not so much against the backdrop of my dry crusty grass but in a tree he would be golden (hidden) I have been on location before and I will shoot...hard part is knowing when and where to be shooting ;-) I should know this but I don't! I am bad with the flora and fauna...identifications thereof! or maybe not is right! I am thee confused! tried somehting new with the last batch full B&W...the first one came out sick! the dumbed down web version does not do it justice though :-(
interesting, I'll have to check it out. Just have to wonder with a site like that, how much traffic/sales actually take place though. I'd hate to put a ton of time into it and not see a very good return. not a slight on CJD in any way but microstock while brutal standards they have, at least you know people will see your photos huh! interesting. sell you say? like if I had a web site where if people saw my pictures, clicked on them and could add them to their cart to have printed...prints, cards, posters, and other merchandise??? I wonder if you'd like to pick some from here: timsdigitaldarkroom.com or even: http://www.photrade.com/timsdigitaldarkroom but what I really need is for someone to write me a custom script similar to istock, shutterstock, etc where I (and others) could see my photos for stock
