Religion = Sickness

    An article I wrote and thought I would share :) Enjoy!

    We kill for it, we dedicate our lives to it, we judge others based on it, we go to war for it and we allow it to consume us to the point of true “faith”, but at the end of the day, religion (see “God”) is a sickness.

    You are right.

    Too many people judge God by what human beings do. As if it is God's fault (or religion) not the human beings who do whatever they do - why not blame the actual people themselves? Also, aren't there many great things done as well in the name of religion?

    You might be right, but that doesn't mean that God, Grace, and Love is a sickness. It's how we let it consume us.

    Who the hell is we? Certainly isn't me. I decree that if it were me I wouldn't live to see another useless melee, so don't count me in your 'we', for your gods mean nothing to me.

    What about people consumed by fighting against religion?

    I read a neurological article about how they did brain scans of people having a debate, and whenever someone was presented with something and successfully blocked it out and re-enforced their previously held viewpoint, it triggered the pleasure centers of the brain same as heroin. This was the same no matter what religion or anti-religion stance the person had.

    Based on that, I think the sickness is just our humanity and our need for pleasure. We get our fix in different ways, but it has nothing to do with religious people needing it more then non-religious because believing you're right about there not being a God makes you just as high. ;)

    The problem is not with religion, but with people.

    Each religion has it's share of idiots, who do all the bad things held against religion such as war, hate, judging others, killing etc .
    Some religions have more idiots than others.

    Religion can be a very good thing in the hands of the right people, that changes lives wonderfully.
    or in the hands of idiots, be the sickness you talked about.

    If only it was a sickness. A sickness only effects those infected with it. But with religion the people infected by it seem intent on using it to make other people do as they say. On one side you have a bunch of cry babies bitching about a stupid drawing and on the other you have christians demanding that everybody keep their children dumb by denying science and teaching "creation" as a biology subject.

    I wouldn't mind if these cretins kept it to them selves, but they want everybody else to suffer with a disease that only they have.

    So now it's a virus? Actually, there are a few Christians who can see that evolution science doesn't even necessarily go against the Biblical creation account.

    Religion can be many things. Satanism is a religion. The sickness is deeper. It isn't in the religion, its in the heart of the person. My religion, Christianity, teaches peace, submission, and obedience, to God and the laws of the land. If we all could live up to the standards of Jesus, the world would be peaceful. Problem is, we cant. We fall short. Religion, is not the sickness, but the right one, could be the cure.

    I say that we should all start blaming HUMAN BEINGS for what they do and quit using things like religion as a scapegoat.
